You made my point Bushmaster. The add shows the point being flexable. If the are warm when you put em in I wonder tf they will distort and then when they get cold(deer hunting is all about cold as a rule) they could stay that way for a while.Again I havent had any experence at all with them.Easy

You can, however purchase a bolt action .30-30 that you can use real pointed bullets in and do better then the plastic tipped ones from Hornady...Of course you can also not buy any of Hornady plastic cartridges and reload your own in pointed and flat pointed, too...The latter is what I've been doing for years...

Gidday Bushy.....I load my Mod 94 in much the same way as you. I use either Winchester 150gn Power Points bullets (nice and cheap in bulk) and I cast 150gn GC flat nose from an RCBS mould. Both work well in my Mod 94. If I want to go to something heavier I load up 165gn spire point bullets and hand load them one at a time as needed. I used to use these bullets in my 10" TC Contender for the Sillouette Match. I always carry 6 in a pouch when out hunting.

Something I could never understand. Everyone says that the maximum effective range one should use the 30.30 over is 100 yds. My TC Contender would shoot 6" groups all day at 200yds. Now I know that 6" doesn't sound great, but for a box stock pistol it isn't too bad at all......certainly accurate enough for hunting.

Cheers, Vince

The .30-30 Winchester mod 94 and all of its copies using the FN bullet is a short range round. Up to 200 yards. 200 yds IF you can hit a 6" target standing free style. No rest but your feet. Most people can't do that and should limit themselves to 100 yards...Anything past 200 yards is stretchin' it for the .30-30 Win. After 200 yards it drops like a rock....My (not so) humble opinion...

By The Way Vince...Did you get my e-mail???

Some where on this site someone posted the hornady website adveritizing a new cartridge for the tubular magazined .30-30. I am unable to find it so we will attempt to start this string (First try)

I e-mailed Hornady and ask them if they intended to supply handloaders with this soft plastic tipped bullet for reloading. This is what i recieved from Hornady...Quore "The bullets are not available for reloading" Tonya Finck...Unquote....

Hi guys, new to the forum and have found tools already.

I had a similar question about Hornady without a definite answer. I was looking into reloading for my .223 with the TAP FPD bullet. There is nothing listed on thier site about "TAP" bullets but it looks like a V-Max in the Moly coat. Is that what it is? Or is it not a marketed bullet? Their handgun TAP load are HP XTP bullets with a Moly coat on them. Thanks
