I use mil-dots for hold-over.

www.huntingnut.com/ind...ion+mildot

for my .270, I zero at 100 yards. With scope set at 11.5x (10x is true mil-dot), first dot is 300 yards, second is 400 yards, 3rd dot =500, 4th = 600, and post is 675 yards.

for my .223, I zero at 250 yards. With scope set at 10x (true mil setting), first dot is 350 yards, 2nd is 450, and 3rd is 550 yards. Bullet drops off to fast after that to range in 100 yards increments.

Same as SlimJ. I have a .270 with a Nikon prostaff that has BDC reticle and it works great. I bought one for my next rifle build also, cause I love it so much. Not exactly mil-dot but sort of. You just have to figure out where those increments are tuned to and go for it. Highly recommend that scope for the price points.

Depends on what gun I'm using !!!

Kentucky windage gets used with standard reticles , Got one Loopy with hold over points, varmint gun is a knob turner.

Yep, trying to hit those tiny target vs a vital zone moves up the presicion factor and knob turning to use cross-hairs has its advantages. However, better invest in a scope that has a very good, repeatable turret system.

As most have mentioned; depends on the rifle. My varmint rifles all wear adjustable turrets and I keep a cheat-sheet taped to the inside of my flip-up scope covers for listing settings for ranges in excess of the zero-distance along with wind references.

Bigger game rifles either have BDC turrets or, like Dallan, I use the Subtend as a guide.

PBZ with a clicky clicky cheat sheet taped to the stock of each rifle.
