A 16 year old Australian girl has secretly gone to Court to add herself to the Airport watch list. She did this to stop her parents from being able to take her to Lebanon for arranged marriage.

This will be an interesting one to watch as there are people within the Islamic community in Australia who are taking action in order to have Sharia Law instituted within Australia.

That just brings to attention the amount of trouble that some people have to go to, just to try and live in a democratic society, such as it is. It must be pretty horrifying for a young girl to have to do that. This is a fantastic place to live and Im glad I was born here. Wonder what would happen to the parents if they ignored the order, hopefully, if they want to live that way, they will climb back onto their leaky boat that brought them here in the first place and let us live our lives the way we want to.

Isn't there a famous old saying "When in Rome, do as the Romans do"? I've never understood people who felt the need to leave where they were living and then tried to force the culture they left on the folks living around their new home.

Well if you look into our history, the Dawes act of 1887 might be an interesting read. There was an entire culture that moved into another country that forced the population of that country to try and live their new cultural ways. Been there done that. From the 1800s to the present day, this culture has oppressed and destroyed the other culture into submission.

The Dawes act is actually about assimilation into the culture. There's a really good article on some local policies that impact all of us in the USA. If you get through part one of this article (it's not that long really) move to part two it's very interesting.

I'm certainly not posting this in support of our illegals or naturalized citizens concerns about keeping their cultural laws, but you must admit it's not unheard of in this country.
