Have a great ANZAC Day on the 25th.
James

Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.[3] The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, whose soldiers were known as Anzacs. Anzac Day remains one of the most important national occasions of both Australia and New Zealand,[4] a rare instance of two sovereign countries not only sharing the same remembrance day, but making reference to both countries in its name. When war broke out in 1914, Australia and New Zealand had been dominions of the British Empire for thirteen and seven years respectively.

"Those heroes that shed their blood
And lost their lives.
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side
Here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers,
Who sent their sons from far away countries
Wipe away your tears,
Your sons are now lying in our bosom
And are in peace
After having lost their lives on this land they have
Become our sons as well.

They shall not grow old
As we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them.

A big thanks to all the ANZAC servicemen and women and to your families aswell. Salute Salute Salute

I can only echo what has already been said. We must remember the sacrifices of our ancestors to appreciate what they've given us. Salute

I find the Turkish respect very heartening. If all old enemies could do the same it would be a much better world.

Alongside the heroes of Sulva fought men of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. From my part of the world to yours my respect and grateful thanks for the sacrifices.

Just read some facts from the news paper.
one tenth of our population that was then 1,000,000 served overseas
one fifth of those never made it back!!
thats 2 % of our total population by my figuring.
there is talk of making it possible to go from NZ to Oz or vice versa with just photo ID!!! they are looking at getting this in place by 2015. what a great idea it will be as easy to pop over the ditch as to fly up north and probably cheaper too.

These words, spoken by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk are now enshrined in memorials in Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.

Ataturk was a "man amongst men"...a brilliant military leader and an even better Statesman and Politician. The courage and compassion shown by soldiers of both sides was "above and beyond". The Turkish people have renamed the landing beach Anzac Cove in memory of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers...the ANZACS...and have preserved the entire area of the ANZAC battlefield as a tribute to these soldiers.

They were, and still are, honourable foes deserving of the greatest respect. Salute Salute

ANZAC Day, 25 April, is the day we remember the soldiers of Australia and New Zealand...but we should also remember and respect the Turkish soldiers because of the honour respect and compassion shown to our dead, and their families, by Ataturk. Salute Salute

LEST WE FORGET

Cheers, Vince
