39,000 acres now and wildly out of control. Reports of 200 houses burned.

Talked to my mom, they have a shallow 1 acre pond on the property and apparently a helicopter came in just beating the flames and was able to dip / drop enough water to turn the majority of the fire from the structures so atm they were spared. She heard they estimated 640 acres out of their 700 they have there burned up. My dad is down there now moving cattle off due to all the forage being burned up.
I guess it was quite the show last night as the fire burned other cabins and the huge propane tanks ruptured. Sad news. They estimated over 100 camp trailers on the mountain burned up as well.
Only 10% contained and over 44,000 acres burned.

A lot of fires this year. Glad to hear your family was spared somewhat. Range land usually improves after a fire. At least that is the experience here.

Dallan, keep us posted. Only 10% contained sounds like wildly out of control.

They are evacuating several more small towns, its out of control and going crazy. Dry lightning started a fire on the adjacent canyon which probably is going to be as big or bigger than this other one.
One body found today, two more people confirmed missing. Hopefully they are found safe. Friend of my wifes just called, said they heard my parents cabin burned... no idea if it is true or not. my Dad got in Monday and got his cattle moved out.
Pictures of the fires are unbelievable... such a wall of utter destruction like you cant believe. Its so dry and windy the fire isnt "laying down" at night, its just raging day and night. The last fire fighters brought in are from Alaska... thats how far they have to go to find available fire crews.

From what I have heard of the fires mate, one positive and two possibles, although terrible is better than I sort of expected. Fingers crossed and prayers that the two are found safe and well and that there aren't any more deaths.
Hopefully your Pappy's cabin has survived Dallan. Is it the family home or a back woods cabin for mustering?
Cheers, Vince

the only positive I can see is the fire wont burn the same ground twice so your parents should be past the worst of it now.
Suz a rain dance PLEASE.

It only works where I dance....you need a rain dance app. on your IPOD. Don't need any more rain where I live. Being near the coast it's been raining for the last week non-stop. No hot weather yet either....well we had a couple days in the 80 degree realm a while back but it's been in the 60s the past few weeks. Should be in the mid to high 70s by the end of this week and dry. I'll send a prayer to Utah and Colorado, best I can do. The guys and gals fighting the fires must be melted by now, they've got 100 degree weather to contend with on top of the smoke and heat of the fires. Hope they're fed and watered well.
Suz
