Been at the range shooting 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water at 400 500 and 600 yards on stands at about 24" to center on the jug - vital area on a elk is 14 to 15 inches in area 22 to 26 inches below the shoulder hump. hit the milk jug dead elk. |
Savagenut, sounds like an effective way to prepare for your hunt. Is this the shot placement you describe?
This came from an interesting file I found regarding elk shot placement.

well I looked at the odds on getting drawn for the different hunts and my freezer, decided to go with a late Bull 1st and early cow 2nd. The early Bull would be nice but I just want to get out and put some meat in the freezer.
I will have some fun going out with a camera anytime

yeah, I would of liked the early hunt but 1:100 was to steep of odds, I like the 1:4 odds a lot better

Congrats on the tag. My whole family struck out again this year. Maybe next year will be our year.

Here we are waiting to hear if there is going to be a open bull, cow & calf season they had one last year and we got hunt the farm land. Our draw does not have to be in until late may I think.
Blessings,
