Yep trblshtr a lot of bad ideas come out of the uk, but you guys figured that out in 1776.

The problem is that the majority of the firearms are legal, only a handful, less than 30 that are illegal.
But the bulk of it made some journalist wet in their pants.
Nevertheless, the find does made bad names for us legal hunters / firearms user.

Whats sad is the fact that the arms will be destroyed without anyone being able to see if there are any valuable (historic /antique) that could be used in museums etc…..because thats the only place you'll be able to find any gun in Aussie soon. Unfortunately you have issues with Crims and Guns way worse than NZ

Yes suz I carried a glock M22 when I was with the sheriff department and never thought It was that valuable, it was pretty plain.

I think the $10K is the black market price.

A terrible terrible state of affairs. These idiots were licensed for 71 firearms only, and as far as I know none of them of the "nasty nasty" categories. Every single one of those firearms will be destroyed by the "OMG, they have guns and they aren't Police, they are civilians" system.

Have a close look at some of the firearms laid out...in amongst the everyday hunting rifles you will see some rather hard to come by guns. In the original picture I saw they had a 9mm Owen Submachine gun (very rare these days and part of Australian history), an F1 submachine gun (looked like it might be suppressed - morons) and a L1A2 AR Rifle (a heavy barrelled automatic version of the FN Self Loading Rifle)...again, rather rare these days, and a couple of M16 rifles.

These idiots should not have had any of the automatic or semi automatic firearms...they are illegal in Australia with special permits. They should not have had the unlicensed firearms as well. Frankly, as far as I am concerned they deserve everything that is coming to them from the Courts. I can hear the rumbles now...is this really the Vince we all know?! The answer to that is quite simple...unfortunately the answer to that is YEP. Gelan has already alluded to the problem that will now surface...the impending knee jerk reaction from the Police and Politicians, aimed squarely at the soft target...the law-abiding, legal, licensed firearms owners. Sure, they will throw the book at these morons, and rightfully so, but at the same time there will be a barrage of changes to the Firearms Act shuffled through the system without so much as a wink or a whisper from those in a position of power.

Once again, we will be the ones bearing the brunt of the fallout over this raid.

The only idiots in New Zealand and Australia are the ones that allowed the confiscation of any and all firearms from the people. Every one of the firearms that they had are LEGAL in this country (at the moment).

The outrage is that the authorities made this arrest and confiscation of what all free people have a god given RIGHT to own. Disarm the people and you OWN the people.

Ahh bushy, here in Downunder we never got the right to bear arm in the first place, our "right' is a privilege that can be revoked at anytime.
As a former penal colony every aspects of our rights are not simply God given, almost all is argued for.

We do not "allow" for our guns to be confiscated, but more to the way of as a good citizen we follow the law of the land.

Our government have "preference" system that you will never know who will hold the power until way after the election.
And then they could go back and lick their words and do contrary to their election promises.
Yah.. civilized we are..

Well (and I wouldn't wish this on you...but) maybe you could use a guy like Obama who wants to fundamentally change every fricken thing. He'll change your privilege to a right in the blink of an eye with out even going through the trouble of voting.

As Gelan said Bushy...we have no real rights in Australia...only privileges allowed by the standing government of the day...and then only at the whim of the "warm and fuzzy, touchy feely, tree hugging, kumbayar minority groups".

We had no say in the original confiscation of our firearms...our then Prime Minister - John "Jack Boot Johnny" Howard pretty much overnight made a stroke with his magic pen and that was that...end of story. Stand up to the Government...have a look at what is happening to the bikies out here mate. They tried to stand up against a State Government, not the Federal guys, and now they are being legislated out of existence. Stand up against a tyrannical Government...will never happen out here unless they do something that will cause a total uprising, and that is not likely to happen because they legislate themselves stronger and stronger each year. There are other factors as well mate...the worst probably being the "she'll be right mate, it will all come out in the wash" attitude of the average Aussie...we are a little too laid back. The other factor is the law-abiding citizens will always abide by the law because that is the "right thing to do".

I've said it before and I will continue to say it mate...we are suffering "death by a thousand cuts" as far as our firearms laws are concerned...the ANTIs make the sort of noises the general non-firearm owning populace can agree with, then they scream blue murder at their relevant members of parliament and of course, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, things get changed to suit them. We do have a couple of lobby groups...the SSAA being one, but again, they really don't have any power and they are also law-abiding licensed firearms owners themselves which means they will always abide by the law, for their own sake.

People on the whole tend to be complacent and have very short memories...most tend to vote on the events of last couple of months which means the few that do take a stand are vastly outnumbered. As Gelan said we have a "Two Party Preferred system that also uses a preference system. Our ballot papers are set up to accommodate the lazy voter meaning most vote "above the line"...they vote only for a political party rather than an individual. This then allows the party that receives the vote to give that vote away to another party that will support their wants and needs. The Preference system should be made totally illegal and scrapped as far as I, and most others I speak to, are concerned. I vot "below the line"...takes me about 30 minutes to vote, but I select every candidate in the order I want them, not a political party. At least that way my vote will count for something, even if I am in the minority.
