And, Glockman55, when I want a little faster and longer range .30-30 Winchester I'll load up a few 150 to 165 grain Sierra FBSP...

Glock,

I live alittle, and take one too many chances in life. Shocked

Not saying I wouldnt try it, just I'd be reluctant to. I guess its hard to adjust to doing something you've been told all your life not to do. Smile

I bought a box of the 325 grn LeveRevolution's in 45-70. I had my 1895 Marlin set up for 200 yards using 300 grn lead handloads. I did some unofficial testing of the 325 grn LeveRevolutions at that same distance in the desert using plastic milk jugs filled with water. The first shot was high and I reasoned that was due to the improved ballistics. The second shot I aimed at the bottom of the jug and it hit handle high...the jug exploded. I shot 2 more jugs and got similar results. Then I went back to my reloads. I put the cross hairs on the jug and hit it, but, the jug didn't have the same explosive results. Two more rounds of my handloads and the results were the same. Seems the LeveRevolution rounds are more destructive. There was less noticed recoil as well. No feeding problems. Not scientific, but, I'm impressed with them.
Keep it coming...

George...I've seen what my .30WCF with a 170 grain Speer Flat nose will do to a gallon milk jug. Expecting a big explosion and not getting it. But I was very impressed by what I saw on a deer that took one from shoulder to rib cage. I'm not so sure that a milk jug is a good test. It is fun though...

This stuff sounds pretty good, IMHO. Why not try something that might give you an advantage when looking to put meat in the freezer. I guess dead is dead no matter what bullet you use, but I'm always looking for a more accurate hunting round and this sounds like it might be worth trying.

Like I said, nothing scientific, just had to try something after buying a box. The only thing I know for sure is they shoot flatter. A 325 grn bullet the size of a 45-70, I think, is going to get the job done. I normally don't like taking 200 yard shots with a 45-70, but, after my little test, I have more confidence now at that range. Like rrogacki says, dead is dead. It would be nice to get some of those bullets for handloading though. Seems Hornady is afraid some one will use it in an old trap door or something. Maybe I ought to pull some of those bullets & try some other powders Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I don't know, rrogacki...With the Speer 170 grain FN my "Jack Handle" puts three inside a 3" dot at 100 yards. If I want more distance I'll load some Sierra 150 grain SPT's.

Bushmaster

You have a good point. I guess the best round is the one you feel most comfortable with.

They're polymer tipped.

Don't forget they're also available in .450 Marlin. I'm thinking about getting one of the new XLR's in the .450 and using the evolutions in it. WITHOUT a scope. I'll leave the scopes for the rifles that really need them.

its an elastopolimer, basically a hard rubber tipped bullet they do crush a bit but they come back to shape, not like your normally thought of polimer ballistic tips (hard plastic)..

Yep! the Leverevolution cartridges are the only pointed bullets that should be used in a tubular magazine. There is a tube feed magazine that spiral indexes its ammo so that you can use the pointed bullets for superior exterior ballistics.
