Congrats, fnuser!! Did you use your new 6.8?

I left my morning stand and started to drive back over to the father in laws place. I started to climb up out of the river bottom when this little Mule started across the road. I stopped, shut off the engine and started taking pictures. This little fellow was so hell bent on getting to the bottom of the hill via the road, that he just walked past my pick up, with me standing beside it with the door open, and came within maybe 15 feet. I finally shewed him off the road after he went past and I took a bunch of pictures, but that little boy ain't gonna get big being that dumb.... Laughing

I fly out to the US on Monday & with luck will get in some hunting in OK the week after next.
I was intending to spend at least a week there but as the bard Burns wrote: "The best laid plans of mice & men gang aft agley".

Great pics! You could have taken the opportunity to teach him a lesson or two!

That's why the British and the Indians got along so well in the early colonial days. No one could understand either one of them. I feel sort of re-incarnated or something.

I've read it as the best laid schemes of mice and men, go oft awry. And leave us nothing but grief and pain,
For promised joy!

OR
from the original

The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy

Best of luck to you English Mike
May your best laid plans be realized

Good job fnuser!!

I was sitting with Mama Wiersy today again, we had a fawn run in on us out of nowhere. It stopped for about .5 seconds and bounced off across the road. There wasn't even time to pick up the gun. We had 4 turkey visit us today to.

After lunch my son got in his stand and looked up after closing the door to find a young doe. Well as you can guess he nailed it. That's 3 this year for a kid that has only shot 2 others in 6 years. He just loves the hurting that his 257 Weatherby does on the forest rats.

Only 1 more day left. I really need to get one in front of Mama Wiersy so she can get the first notch in her butt stock. She's been having a blast this year and has spent more time in the blind then the last 18 years combined, so I think she deserves one.

The final night of the season my son pulled a bang flop on a nice doe, and took a poke at a buck that showed his head after he shot. The problen is they were on the other side of the creek. I had him stay there while I came around the other side to look for the buck. I jumped him when I got in the area but couldn't get a shot so I went on to find my son. Before I new it I was in mud up to my shins. It took a while but I found him and looked for blood but it looks like a clean miss. I went back and picked up the bucks trail and kept jumping him but it was so thick he would take one jump and never be seen again. Now everything is covered in mud. But a good end to one of the best seasons I have had. Now I'm just waiting for the muzzle loader season.

Haha Haha Haha Haha

I would have loved to have been sitting in a tree stand watching you and the buck playing hide and seek in the mud mate...I reckon it would be a scream.
