Well I decided to do some more load development today, I had never played with seating depth so I loaded up 3 rounds on the lands, .025 off, .050 off, .075off and .100 off.
Here's the results
On the lands 1.132
.025 off came down to .632
.050 was the ticket at .257
.075 was back at .632
.100 was .6945
This is with a factory Howa 1500 heavy barrel .243win, only thing I have done to the gun is lighten the trigger. It has a Nikon 4.5x14x40 buckmasters on top of it. This gun just keeps impressing me! All rounds were loaded with H414 at 41.7grns with Berger 95grn VLD bullets. Very Happy Now it's time to go to work on the 68grners. (Sorry no pics I was slacking today Sad )

Good load developing.

.050 is the sweet spot for your load and rifle with that bullet. I also notice on my rounds that when I seat the bullet closer to the rifling, accuracy can improve up to a certain point. Did you use a crimp?

No I didn't crimp. I'm using a Lee neck collet die and cases that have now been fired twice from this gun. Federal brass. I actually impressed myself with it today. Now I'm gonna try and find that sweet spot with the 68's and then get some drop data from both loads. I used the OCW to find the charge weight witch was max on the 95's and 1.5 grns below max on the 68's. Can't wait to try the 68's as it seemed to like them a little better when I was testing charges.

Fine job there 24/7 !!!

I love the H414 in my 6mm but I only use it with the 85gr. bullets. It's a bit too fast burning to get maximum speed out of the heavier pills.
Never the less it's a great powder that I've used successfully in the 243, 6mm, 7mm08 and the 308.
If I ever get around to building that .250AI it will be the first powder I'll try in it !!!

Chambered, it's the only powder that I've tried so far, and I don't have a chorny to check the speed yet. I was thinking about trying another powder but after these groups I'm wondering if there is any use. I got all the 68's loaded up this evening now just gotta find time to shoot em.

Hunthard. with groups like that I wouldn't worry about another powder. At most you MIGHT gain a few feet per second, not enough to worry about in the real world.

it shoots accurate ,its a easy load ,WRITE IT DOWN with permanant ink on the load bench and stick to it.thats good shooting and those animals will be quivering wrecks in the bushes...

I would definitely chronograph the load before switching to a different powder !!!
Like Mike said a few fps wouldn't be worthwhile. However if the potential is there to gain an extra 150+ I'd be looking at it. (that's just me though) Should you venture there I recommend IMR7828 and N560, heard good things with the both of them in the .243.

I got a chance to shoot the 68's yesterday, with a best group of .6945. I don't feel that I was doing my part so I've reloaded some more and will try them out again soon. Had one of my buddies here and he told me that the worst group I shot that was 1.5moa was good enough, but I'm just not satisfied. Now when I get these shot I'll have to get some more primers before I can load anymore.

If you have my luck, the ones you have been using won't be in stock. Primers, like all components, are part of the recipe. Change to a different primer and you may see different results.

NICE JOB, 24/7 - That's what makes reloading so much fun.

slimjim, you got me nailed!!lol Been using winchester primers but all they had were cci. I shot the 68's I wanted to retry today and got the same results. (and I think I was doing my part today) I've loaded up some of the 95's with the cci primers and will try them out soon, got my fingers crossed that it don't affect it that much. After going back through my notes from powder weight testing on the 68's the best group I got was 1.75 moa so I'm gonna try and do the OCW again and see if I can find a better load. If not it'll be on to another powder. This is the first gun I've ever reloaded for and I'm still learning. But I'm having a blast doing it.
