Ooch, Dimitri! What is the story behind that one? Doesn't look like Mother Nature cause the issue.

I'm willing to bet he used the wrong powder for his shotgun loads.

Or decided to plug the barrel with a tree.

Thats tough but I don't know if it will ever see the field again.

I did ask him how much he wanted for the gun. I figure a new barrel and stock and it will be good to go.
There will be more than a new barrel for this gun to function safely and properly. The problem being that the entire receiver needs to be cleaned and a visual inspection and magniflux of the receiver to detect any failures. THEN the NDT (Non-destructive testing) usually xray of the component to find the hidden damage if there is any. I will err on the side of safety knowing just how fast things can go south. When I was a kid, I purchased a single shot 12 gauge 2 3/4inch model 402 CIL (Canadian Industries Limited) shotgun and went hunting ducks just west of the city about 3 miles or so. I shot and ducks fell until I shot ... and very quickly the stock of the gun exploded, a mallard drake hit the water and I had a hand full of shredded wood and a goodly amount of scratches on my face. Blood everywhere! The inside of the stock that looked absolutely beautiful was soft and rotten out. The wood could actually be crushed in your hand, it was that soft. I took it back to the Macleods store for a replacement or refund , my choice. (I took another gun). If I was of a mind to harm someone, it would be a deliberate act by myself and not God willing by anything that I have worked on or repaired.

Close calls like that do change your perspective a little.
