I haven't heard anything from Elvis as yet, and he is in that general area where the earthquake hit. An Earthquake of 7.8 is not something to take lightly. I will keep trying to contact him to see if they are all OK.

Radar should be right on the North Island, assuming he isn't too close to the coast with a two metre tsunami predicted.

Heard from Elvis through Vince - apparently they are a few hours away from the quake, shaken but not stirred.

I haven't checked Facebook today, been busy trying to find another car. I'll go across and check now. Thanks Gelan.
OK...seen that I have a reply on Facebook from Rebecca, the SWMBO of Elvis...
"Yes we are ok, I didn't feel it, mike let me sleep through, boy I have given him sh1t about that, our daughter (Toadlet on The Nut) is in Christchurch, she is a bit shaken but ok, we are about 2 hours away from the quake, but still felt it, makes for scary stuff again, the earthquake has be down graded to a 7.5, still huge."
Now to track down Radar and make sure all is good with him.

Thanks for the update, Vince. The earth has been shaking too much around there lately.

Radar is fine got txt from him this morning, they felt it where he is (central nth island) it seems it was centred close to Kaikoura up the coast from christchurch with another hitting at same time close by.had relatives in the north island ringing n txting first thing this morning as they all got shook up too...these ones werent as sharp as others sort of more rolling.....imagine house being beside railway tracks crossed with boat in large swells....
the main road up along the coastline looks pretty shagged for time being with lots of slips across road and rail lines...lots of work to be done to fix that mess.
thankyou all for your concern...you lot are tops.

Pictures of some of the first casualties of the Earthquake. As devastating as it looks, it appears that most survived with few casualties from this terrible incident.

Glad so few were hurt.
Hmmm ... are those vertical posts tilted because of the earthquake or did the photographer drink too much of the wine before they snapped the picture?

Hey guys I'm still here, Vince has summed it up well. It's a big turd burger down there though. My missus said if I wanted to go down and assist I could put my hand up - I'm not sure of her motive yet
