What distances do you normally set your rifles to zero at? Generally for my own I use a 250 yard zero with exceptions being my 7STW which i use a 300 yard zero on and my 17HMR and ML's that are set to 125 yard zeros.

How about you guys?

Howdy. 200yds for the center fires. 100 yds for the muzzleloader and slug guns and 75yds for the 22 mag.

It depends. My .22 l.r. bolt actions are sighted at 75 yards, slug guns are the same, centerfire rifles at 200 yards. All the best...

For smaller stuff (not 22LR rimfire which is set at 65 yards) 223, 6x45. I use a 2 inch PBR setting so bases on the load and the velocity I can just estimate distance and work withing a 4 inch band of trajectory.

For the 6.5x55 I use a 3 inch PBR and for the 375/284 I'll probably use a 4 inch one.

I also have my come ups and such for various distances on a card on the stock of a couple of rifles that are sighted in for specific distances for target work and LR pig popping.

I use the PBR function of the PCB ballistics software.

.30-30 Winchester...No scope but sighted in at 100 yrds. Used for close range and heavy brush and timber...

.30-06 Browning/Redfield...Sighted in at 200 yrds. Gives me every thing from 100 yards to 300 yards at the same sighting. Just a little lift to the muzzle and I can touch you at 400 yards...

Most of my hunting rifles are sighted at a 200 yard zero but my 45-70 is 175 yards and my varmint guns at 250 yrds.

Marlins don't reach that far...

For the centerfire hunting rifles, MPBR for a 6" diameter target.

That gives me 205-225 yards with the Marlins, depending on whether it s the .30-30, .375Win or .45-70.

See Bushy, I'm not the only one that uses them. Trust me, they reach that far.

The system I use sighting in is go to the balistics chart and find a certain cal/bullet combo,and use their info to find point blank range,in other words how far the bullet is going to be from center at any given range.An example:A 40gr sp fired from a .22-250 at 4000fps sighted in 2in high at 100yds will be 1 1/2in high at 200yds and 3in low at 300yds giving me a point blank of 300 yds. In other words from the muzzle to 300yds if I place the crosshares deadcenter on a woodchuck or standing pd,I will get a killing shot(if the wind doesnt interfere)My wind control is fire about 2-3 shots for effect and try to adjust.This doesnt work on yotes,too noisey.Back to good old Kentuckey windage. This works on larger game as long as you know how large the kill area is,you just have a bigger point blank. Ray Wooster.

Starting from scratch, I shoot for group at 25m and to get on target then I move out to 75m to zero my .22LR rimfires and 100m for my 30.30 and .243.

I zero for point of aim at 100m for the 30.30 and 2.5" high at 100m for the .243....this allows me to hold dead on out to 300m. Where I hunt 300m is a long shot. If I ever get the chance (money) to go way outback I will change the .243 distances for a maximum of 400m.

I am still "learning" to shoot slugs through my 12g so realistically I only put shot through it when hunting rabbits, cats and birds.

(Watching the Winter Olympics while typing...the Double Luge....these guys are CRAZY!!!!! The US team just crashed out at near on 100kph)

I set the zero to give me at 5" PBZ. It ususally works out to be about 250 for most of my guns and loads.

30/30 100 yards and all other usually 200 to 300 yards. Marlins 50 yards and under because they reach only that far
