Okay have that done. Now the 4 page license application, a picture of my ugly mug and a few signatures, an envelope and stamp, and then wait for the endorsement to come in the mail. The gun shop is holding an 9mm M&P for me and I have my IPSC and IDPA information. The 1000 cases and bullets should be in next week as well as the powder, dies and case trimmer. My son picked up a digital scale for me and it is in the mail on its way. Last thing is the authorization to transport and I can start punching holes in paper at the local range. That is after I load up a few hundred rounds and no I didn't forget the primers. I have them already.
Targets, I forgot targets Does it ever end

Wow! Safety course, 4 page license application, endorsement, application to transport?? Guess I'm glad I live where I do!. We are required to get a "permit to purchase", or have a concealed carry permit, to buy a handgun in NC but none of the rest of that stuff. Now the concealed carry permit did take several weeks to be processed. Now I can walk into a gun shop and be shooting in an hour, including the 40 minute drive to the range.
That said, I'm glad you're on the way to hitting the range! And no, it never ends!! Targets, new holster, maybe new grips, new sights ... Ain't it great!

Down here we go through all that,
and we have to join a target PISTOL shooting club,
Then we have the police visit, to get our safe approved
then 30 days mandatory wait for the license paperworks,
plus 30 days wait for permit to acquire.
Then we make appointment to get license mug shot.

Welcome to the club.
The only sad part about this is that you have to be grandfathered to own a handgun with a barrel length of less than 4.2". Meaning that you had to own one before 1994.

Hello MacD,
You are lucky to be in NFL and not QC. We have over and above the federal regulations, the famous Quebec law 9. We must belong to a certified gun club and take the Law 9 course and shoot restricted firearms at least once a year. If you cannot get to the range one year you lose all your restricted privileges and have to start the law 9 courses all over again
You can see that Quebec gun owners are in for a bad time especially with the non-restricted registration still in place for us.
I used to have an open carry licence while on my trap line and it was revoked two years ago because I was not earning my living solely by trapping. So now on my trap line I carry a Ruger 10/22 to replace the S&W686. That makes me a much safer person.

I am glad I live in Pennsylvania. We need a CCW to carry handguns concealed. We do not need any safety courses or permits to purchase firearms. Take care...

It always amazes me what requirements other areas have. Here, the only thing required is a background check. If a person has a CCW permit, it will take the place of the state BG check and save that $6 fee. No permits, permission nada. I think with the recent new pro-gun laws that have gone into effect, Utah is more gun friendly than Texas.
The coolest thing though is the positive press on gun owners, expecially CCW holders. In fact just a few days ago a nut bought a knife at a store, came out and started stabbing women in the parkinglot. A CCW holder happened to be there and drew on the guy and got him to lay down until the cops showed up. Everyone including the police were greatful the CCW got involved and prevented further injury or death.

How many times you see positive storys like that in the general news?
Anywho back to MacD's post, CONGRATULATIONS! Pistols are alot of fun and that M&P sounds like it will be as well.

Down under in NZ you need an initial Category A license (rifles shotguns air guns including air pistols) then you need to join a Pistol club, be a member for 6 months prior to applying for a license then you need a full security check both on yourself and the physical storage of the pistol. Once all this is done you may get a license. To purchase you need a permit to purchase completed by the Police and the Shop supplying.
Once thats done you must remain a Pistol Club member, you must attend at least 6 times in that year.
Its pretty strict but we don't have the hand gun crime that other areas have as a result. I'm not saying they're not here but its only Organised gangs that have hand guns and thats purely defensive, they know that our response is walnut V Sledge Hammer.....no contest.
Aussies problem is that they're too close to SE Asia where all the arms are carried through lax customs etc.
