One can always wear a metalized coat to defeat it. Just like my metal roof blocks my cellphone coverage.

This has been an issue for civil liberty associations for a number of years. Current technology that we know about allows reading of the chips from up to 30 feet and at speeds of about 50 Kph. They are found in many wearable goods and used to track retail visits. Livestock and pets have been implanted by the 10's of millions for years now.

The technology is obviously advancing faster than our constitutional and statue laws can adapt. You are quite right in saying that businesses are a big driver but the biggest proponents are government agencies such as Homeland Security in the USA.

BTW the chips are low frequency devices and penetration through solids is much better than cellular signals. Reactive chips need to be within a wavelength or so of the reader. Powered ones such as those found in most automobiles of current manufacture have a much greater range.

Laughing I can think of a few politicians that could use these with a bit of a twist in design;make them like a trebble hook with the "barbs" reversed, insert in the "south side" so that removal is painful, and let them loose....easy tracking for the public! Evil or Very Mad

now for rock spiders they might have a use? but I think a explosive collar that would detonate if the wearer comes within 500 mtrs of a school or shopping centre would be so much more efficent Very Happy

And they are the exact same thing like the chip in your car keys (for smart ignition), your dogs and cats etc.

They stay fixed in one place, they are relatively low powered and do not have any range, like the RFID office cards to enter doors, or your credit card you physically need to touch to a scanner for it to even read correctly, and typically do not have the ability to transmit much data each time due to the limited power it can build up from the transceiver that its reading it.

So in the end, if you really have one, and you really have something to hide, unless they already nabbed you and are physically scanning you within a few inches from your body, it doesn't make much of a difference.

But still if your that paranoid, please remember they stay in the exact same spot they are implanted in, which means you can personally extract it with a pocket knife if you really got paranoid.

Wouldn't it be nice though, you'd never need car keys, credit cards, drivers licenses etc.

Just touch the palm of your hand (or possibly near your wrist) and voila.

As for you radar ... you can use one of these (or a better modified version) ...

When you stop someone all they have to do is put out their hand, the handheld reads the chip ID, you'll have their driving records at hand, any outstanding warrants etc in a instant. No need for back and forth to your patrol car or bothering people who are innocent of anything etc.

My thought is that WE ARE ALL BORN WITH BARCODE BUILT IN.
Thats what your finger prints do.. barcode..

RFID implanted chips is not that bad, the only thing is that the security for the info is not guaranteed.

It aint happening here.
Wanna stick a chip in me? better send more than 1 applicator and more than a couple to hold me down.

Old George Orwell was pretty close to the mark eh.

the number plate scanners are a plurry great idea a easyer way for the law to catch up with dodgy huas. the problem with putting all your eggs in one basket as you have suggested Omni is some time you trip up and break the lot. a puckerooed chip would leave you stranded!!!!
it would also give the powers that be the ability to cut you off by disalowwing your chip from the system.

Its not the powers that be that are the major problem...its what unscrupulous businesses will be able to do. If they can build it, they can modify it...we could quite conceivably become slaves to anyone who has the power to modify a chip and use it for whatever they wish. How long before it becomes mandatory for a newborn baby to be implanted as part of the birthing procedure...a bit like cats and dogs now.

Am I paranoid...no 'Mitri...just being realistic mate. People and organisations are power hungry and will use whatever means they can to increase their power and strength, either financial or physical.

I'm with Pete...they better send a platoon of people to implant me, because it will need that many and probably more.

Cheers, Vince

RFID chips are one time programmable with a unique (typically 32-bit code), the more complicated ones like in your credit card can also transmit up to 32-bits of additional data (it does "math" on the chip to always give out a unique transaction authentication code).

Once programmed however they are worthless and cannot be modified (the essentials anyways). There is typically a small spot for your PIN in your credit cards, a few bytes of data that is EEPROM, which would allow you to change your pin, and therefore the answers given by the RFID when near a scanner.

My current project uses RFID's which are completely programable with large amounts of data actualy. The scary thing is how easy a portable reader is to buy and conceal. Someone could put one in a bag and walk around scanning everyone in the immediate area.

Even if you over boost your pulses to charge the 125Khz RFID that was approved, your still going to need to be within a food from the chip to read it (most 125Khz passives are only rated to something like 6").

The ones approved for humans are like the Dog ones though, a mere 32-bit identifier being OTP.

The EMV cards (Europay, MasterCard and Visa's Chip Card and RFID type cards) that run at 13.56 MHz still need physical contact to the reader to even be read. As they require a larger charge then a passive device, and they can be a pain at times.
