I have no clue, Gil. Someone sent this to me with no explanation. Thought it was a very nice job.

A hunting pistol maybe?

Back in the early 80’s it was a reasonably common custom job on rifles to create pistols for IHMSA out here in Australia. Many Martini Henry single shot rifle actions were converted to pistols for silhouette shooting. Unfortunately we were not allowed to hunt with pistols...and still aren’t. The Ruger XP100 platform was the inspiration for these customs and there were some magnificent customs produced. It’s no longer allowed now though.

That has metallic silhouette, written all over it.
The flame out the front must be impressive.

Obrez rifles were commoon in the early 20th century. Military rifles were easier to access then pistols, and were frequently cut down for concealable weapons.

I don't know Dimitri...I carry a concealed weapon. Not sure I'd really like carrying something that big or that heavy of a caliber rifle cartridge. I bet it's heavy too.

That's because you have the ability to own a pistol.

Many parts of the world, especially at the turn of the century pistol ownership was either very expensive, or outright forbidden by the authorities. But private ownership of rifles was easier.

So it's either this or nothing in those regions.

I tried searching online but found nothing about pistol configurations. Here is a link with lots of rifle information.

I'm inclined to go with dhc4ever on this one. It does make sense.

plenty heaps of .303 brit lee enfields were chopped like that.....short n light for either naughty purposes or for pig hunters to use as a bail gun (big pig bailed by dogs hunter within 10 feet ) very hard on ears and wrists...thank goodness we are way past them days, with suppressors it is far easier andsafer to use the likes of a Bakail single shot.

Here in the USA you need a $200 tax stamp to have a rifle made into a pistol. Basically the same thing as owning a full auto... That's the way the law is written.
