|
I was at the pawn shop yesterday looking for a scope for my wayward AR and after not seeing the gun I was looking for I asked if they had a Ruger GP 100 in stainless with a 6" barrel in 357 magnum. I had looked and hadn't seen one but I was hoping they would put me on a list or something. He reached behind the counter, against the wall and pulled out a box and opened it up saying, "like this?'. He opened the cylinder to show it was cleared and I looked the gun over. It had a positive lock-up, no end-play in the cylinder and looked new. There was no powder residue anywhere so I asked if it was used. He said yes but barely. So I asked how much - $400! was the answer. I pulled the Security-Six out of my shoulder rig and found that it fit perfectly. I looked at him and said I was keeping it but that he knew that... He told me he had a strong feeling that was the case.
We started the paperwork and I handed him my drivers license and CPL and he started the process. I had completely forgotten the the change in the law was that the sheriff would do a local check and the state patrol would do their own check and then a mental health check and then the sheriff would decide whether I was able to own the gun or not. So I will have to wait about a week to bring it home.
I feel good about getting the gun for less than half the suggested retail price and my Security-Six finally has family to play with at the range.

Did someone say 6" Ruger GP100?
I absolutely love it. I've put something over 3,000 rounds through it so far & it shoots like nothing else.
I was even managing to hit a steel IPSC target at 100yds at least two out of six with it last week, standing offhand.

Wow, you have a state issue CPL and you had to wait a week?

That's a good deal! I should have bought one years ago as the price has steadily crept up. I've also got a Security Six, 4", but I want to have a 6".

Yes, The state was told that the feds would no longer perform the instant background checks under the conditions the state operated so while the state puts together an instant check that the feds will support they do a threefold check and then the city police chief (if you live in the city) or the county sheriff (if you live outside the city limits) have to say you qualify to buy the gun. The law allows up to 30 days for the check and that can be extended at will. The earliest I expect to get the gun is Wednesday but it could be a lot longer.
Stupid state!

Dayum, great price indeed.
Over here they would be over $1000 even second hand, and you got to wait 30 days or so for a permit to acquire before you can take it home.

looks like fun...as much as the checks maybe/are a right pain in the arse......if they stop some fruitloop or put one on the radar before the smelly stuff hits the whirly thing ,it would be worth while......unfortunately as the dirtbag in CHCH prooved they can slip under the radar and appear normal untill its too late.
enjoy the use of the new tool.

Delayed "background checks"/waiting periods are more likely to COST someone their life than to save one. The law abiding person waits until the period ends, sometimes unable to defend themselves against the threat they are buying the gun for to start with. The criminal just goes out on the street and finds one.

You cant here either.
Although as a police person, or a politicians security guard or a money security truck person, it appears you can.
So rich banks and politician's and police have more rights than the average pleb.

We can here, and about 2 million times a year people do - and rarely is a shot fired. Just the presence of a gun in the hands of an intended victim stops the criminal.
Criminals don't go through background checks, they get their guns by stealing them, or off the black market. I am not unarmed while I wait but someone buying their first gun would be.
They can't take or keep guns away from the criminals - they sure won't take mine from me.

Yet they're likely to put far more effort into disarming law abiding citizens than they ever have into disarming criminals.
Funny that...

The governments down under have good reason to fear an armed citizenry. They are already taking the first steps to a totalitarian political government. They expect everyone to comply so they can complete the process without resistance.
I would never suggest that anyone break the laws that a true representative government placed upon its citizens but I would deeply examine the reasons and effects such laws would carry before I would comply.
Here in te states there are many in places that are very restrictive that will not comply. They don't comply with registration, confiscation, or licensing. I will never comply. Such laws are an attempt to over-ride the laws of God and of nature and no government has the power to do that.
