That's a real bummer Dallan.

As a couple of the guys have said...a good opportunity to hunt out of state.

Maybe I shouldn't mention that there is no such thing as a deer season, tags or bag limits here in parts of Australia should I.

I get to hunt deer over here for free - me & a mate have access to several farms where we keep down the population of foxes, rabbits, crows & pigeons for the owners & in exchange we get to take a few deer.
On the other hand, Elk hunting is a touch more expensive, as I have to make an 5,500 mile trip to New Mexico & then drive to Colorado to do so.
It's worth every penny though, as the guys I go with are the best companions anyone could ask for.

If I lived where there was no deer, elk, antelope, prarie dogs, turkeys, rattle snakes, hogs other birds, I would not be there. If I do it right I can get 6 antelope, three deer (Maybe more) and three elk each fall! I can start teh middle of Aug and go till Christmas somewhere some time! Maybe you should think it over and head east over the big pond and see what God's Country is like! Always got coffee on and and extra bed!

Doesn't Colorado have over the counter tags for elk?

Also, I'm originally from MN, and an out of state deer tag is only about $135. and there is lots of State forests up north.

Yep - $254 for cows, $546 bulls for non residents & $46 for residents.
They go on sale July 7th for units marked in green on This Map
They're available online from the same day.
