Whoa....you shout real loud there Firehawk.
Do you reload mate? I reckon you can't go past your own handloads for tailoring a load to your exact needs and level of accuracy.....and wallet.
Food for thought there mate.
Cheers, Vince

Firehawk, as far as factory loads you'll probably just have to try several to see what works in your gun. What size groups were you getting?
As for the bipod... Unless you're shooting from a perfectly level bench I'd think you'd want some flexibility in the bipod. The thing I don't like about the old Harris bipod I have is that it won't tilt from side to side.
You mentioned the furniture industry, would you happen to be in the High Point, NC area?

i live in hickory, NC. i work for a very high end furniture company here. i am going to try the remington umc ammo next because the hornady ammo is a lil on the expensive side to target shoot with. i am also in the need of a place to try the .223 and the little .17hmr out on some live game like ground hogs and coyotes. if you guys might have a suggestion i would greatly appreciate it.

Firehawk, I'm over near Winston-Salem. Should be some good groundhog hunting up your way. I'm looking for a place too so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

thanks pumpkinslinger. we are in eachothers backdoor here in NC. there are alot of groundhogs up here but most people wont let you hunt them cuz you know how it is; you might shoot my cows or horses, those are the excuses i keep hearing. i have been hunting long enough to know the difference between a groundhog, deer, coyote and those dang cows and horses. if i could help u with something as soon as i find some land to do it on i will post and we can get in contact so you may be able to make a quick trip down to kill some groundhogs.

Firehawk, thanks and I'll do the same. Right now I'm not even sure where I can deer hunt this year. I've got a couple places to try in Yadkin County and an invitation to hunt in Wilkes if my schedule works out. There is lots of land right here where I live but I've had the problems you mentioned. Some slob in the past shot the owners' dog/cow/horse/house! I guess I'd feel the same way if I was the land owner.
Maybe we can hook up at a gun show some time and have a cup of coffee.

If you haven't handloaded before and decide you need some guidance let me know, you're close enough for a day trip.
Read up on the OCW method of finding the best handload for your rifle.
The next big gun show in Charlotte is in mid December. I plan to go.

i am going to try and wait to go to another gun show til tax time so i will have plenty of money and maybe i can find me another rifle with a little bigger bullet. thinking about 243 or maybe 270 but i cant go wrong with 308. we used it in the army to kill people so i figured what the heck it will kill deer with ease. as soon as i get ready to go to a show i will let you know.
