I did used Locktite on all the threads for the new DedNutz scope mount. One thing that was causing the problem was H+Rs use of some type of sealant in the scope mount holes. They don't come plugged like most other rifles, so H+R puts some type of sealant in the threads I guess to keep them from getting rusted. When you mount a new scope using those holes, the sealant gets pushed to the bottom and keeps the mounting screws from getting completely tight. They feel tight, until you shoot the rifle a few times, then they're loose again. I had to pick out that sealant and blow out the holes before I could properly screw down the scope mount. I'm hoping the problem is now solved, but I haven't been back to the range yet to try it out.
With warmer temperatures, the entailing thaw we got last week and the rain on the weekend, the range I use got pretty wet and muddy. The type of mud that's so thick it will suck your boots off. I need to get out there early one morning while it's still half frozen.
Don

For one that kicks that much, you may be advised to bond/glue the base to your rifle. You can do that with bedding compond or find out what XS uses for their scope mounts.

Another trick to these rifles is to wrap the scope mounting area of the barrel with wet and dry sandpaper and rub the scope mount back and forth until it exactly matches the contour. Not sure if I'd want to make the scope mount as permanent as bedding it to the barrel would be. I have however heard of some guys using a bedding under the mount with a release agent on the barrel.

XS uses a epoxy resin adhesive called Marine Tex. I got it with my Scout Mount for my Mod 94, but didn't use it. I used Loctite (262 from memory) and it holds tight as a fishes butt onder water...and that's water tight. :-D.

Vince, thanks for finding that. I'm adding a scout mount to my Marlin 22 lever-action and the base I have for it is slightly off. I'm not going to sand it, just use bedding epoxy, or the Marine Tex if I can find it, to make a perfect fit.
