Elvis, how big do the rabbits grow down under that you can make steaks out of the backstraps?

yip but the 12ga is more fun. the 223 is cool and the .270 has done the job more times than I can count.

I love hutning jacks. Next year when the winter wheat comes up I'm gonna give a couple a try. Now they are feeding on sage and stuff....gotta parboil the tar out of them or it's like eating a bag of herbs, so I hear, and I aint goin there. Gamey and tough. We got some woppers out here I gotta poke at with the .22 cuz they is wise, but the range is very limited for rifled anything, very small area I can do that in. Yunkers I can get on the hop though. Yer advice on the #3 made all the diff too up to 30-40y max. Them 3" fast-steel loads rolls 'em good in the 20ga. if I get them when the load is flying fast 'fore it bleeds out.
Too easy wi/ the 12ga and #4 lead. BOOM. Done.
Awesome to see the big ones run and leap over stuff....man are they fast and they can realy FLY at times. Big air over stuff. Pop one in the air and there's nothing like it.

Lemme know where ya want this one sent, Elvis. Razz

I keep missing his big brother, a monster of a bunny. Biggest I've ever seen. He's on to me and wont let me near him and just checks out to another county. I got his number though and he's my new goal. 22LR and a scope at dawn should do it, although not as sporting as chasing them. The whole warren is on to me now as I've been thinning them out good. Getting harder to get. Only got this one yesterday. KENT #3 Fast-steel is my new go-to bunny load in the 20ga pumper.

That there is a jackrabbit not a bunny! Or is that a whimpy subcompact tailgate that future hare steak is laying on?

Thanks!
Yeh- I call that area a "warren", and I know that aint right and I need to stop it. This general area has ravines with cotton tails and flats with Jacks galore. They scratch out some cool spots beside or sorta under'ish the chaparral for shade, that or they are going for the roots, not sure. I'll get a pic of one/some next time. Perfect cover too- really tight knee/waist + high stuff and hard to get a clear shot off but open enough to where they can really haul out. Very cool animals and I enjoy them.

This one was around 6 lbs or so I'm guessing and do they ever get bigger out in this spot but, the woppers are wise to me so... not sure if I'll ever bag one with a pop gun or a .22LR. If I do, he's getting stuffed. Razz

Thinkin' of backing off on them till after February or so when it cools down, they mellow out and munch some tender stuff...then I'm gonna try yer backstrapper recipe fer sure. Very Happy
