Do any of you use a deer blind? My son thinks it would be a great idea. I just can't seem to get behind the idea. Maybe I'm just to lazy, the though of having another thing to drag along when deer hunting just turns me off.

Am I way off base?

on others property a blind you must have permission but on my property i have several small brush blinds. very effective. they break ther wind and make it harder for the deer to spot movement.

i like plastic lawn chairs scattered thru the woods. you can leave them all year and the deer get used to them and it gets your butt off the wet cold ground.

I use a pop up blind and am glad when the north wind gets to blowing, you can drag it out, put it up, leave it up until season is over, no more draging out every time you leave the house, besides the deer dont mind something if its there awhile, they are alittle twitchy if it just suddenly apears one day.

Very Happy I've got a Double Bull blind that I use occasionally for deer and often for turkey and varmints. The blind is especially good for taking a kid hunting. You know how kids can fidget.
For deer I like to try and "Brush it in" with limbs, leaves, vines, etc. Without doing that, I've found that the deer will initially shy away from it but will grow more accustomed if it's left for some time. Turkey and varmints seem to care less about it just "appearing" all of a sudden. Blinds are a God-send when the weather is cold, windy or rainy. I've taken a folding chair and stayed very cozy in some brutal weather.
Happy Thanksgiving to All.

I agree yotebuster, I have taken a coleman 2 mantle lantern and put it in the blind with me and its nice and warm and the lantern dont seem to bother the critters with its noise when its in a bucket turned upside down over the top of the lantern with holes in it for it to breath.

If anything is left in the woods here, blinds chairs etc you can bet it will be stolen or broken next time you want to use it.

Spacedone, great idea with the chairs. You can pick them up at Wally World for about $4 each in late fall. I have a bunch out at camp that I can do that with....thanks for the idea.

BTW, Bushmaster, some of us have physical limitations and ailments that don't lend themselves to "real hunting" as you asked about. I, for one, have back problems that prevent me from walking more than 15 minutes at a time without sitting down for a "good spell". Blinds, stands and now chairs allow me to enjoy the sport I love so much without the pain that would go along with "real hunting".

Bushmaster, I love hunting, BUT, I dont live were the country goes forever, I have limited area to hunt in So your kind of hunting is out of the question..
To top it all of, I have had 3 heart attacks in the last 5 years and and 5 stents plus I need heart surgery "AGAIN", Sorry my kind of hunting dont agree with you, but I dont have a choice, Unless death or stop hunting is any kind of choice. there for, I ride my 4 wheeler to with in 200 yards(doctors limit) of my blind and walk to my blind and set all day. Thats my world, I have to live with it. I am not trying to be an ass, just trying to explain my life.

Gentlemen...I have no problem with those that may be unable to do the long haul and I don't have any argument with you...So if you have a legitimate handicap egnore my above rantings and I will appologize to you and only you...BUT I see soo many of the young and the older able bodied sittin' on their collective a$$es and callin' themselves hunters...I am probably one of the lucky ones as I just turned 63 and my 40 year old doctor can't stay with me...I hunt on foot using the "still hunting" method and I have been trained to track. The latter being my favorite method. I hunt in the High Sierras. My main camp is at 8,000 ft and I hunt up or down from there...

I have used pop-up blinds since they first started showing up on the market in the 80's. They are very effective at concealing your scent, very good in swirling winds that would foil a stand hunt or stalk. They are also very comfortable for long or all day sits at a stand location, especially in foul weather.

For those that like to photograph nature or the game you 'let walk' the photos are better at ground level rather than from a elevated stand.

I sometimes brush in a pop-up blind but not all the time. I have put up a blind and had does sticking their head in the windows to see who was inside 15 minutes later. On one occasion I had a pack of wild dogs come in that noticed the blind but didn't scent me or try to enter the blind. If you haven't encountered a pack of wild dog's in the woods you are lucky. They are not friendly lap dogs and are on my list of 'targets of opportunity'.

The Double Bull Blinds are very nice but expensive. You can spend a quarter of the money and have a blind that will last you years and be just as effective. Save even more and just build a brush blind but you have to pay attention to the wind and your scent.

Bushmaster, Fencing

Like someone else said here everyone hunts a different method for different reasons because of location, health, and physical ability. Your way works for you where you hunt. Try still hunting in the east and you will gain weight in 150 grain increments.

Hunters have been hunting from blinds/hides longer than you have been hiking up and down mountains out west with or without a hay burner. If hunting from a blind is a legal method of hunting that is the only requirement of any hunter.

Hunting is not a macho contest, exhale. If your abilities and location allow for your way of hunting who could ask for more but don't lay out a line to us that your way of hunting is healthy in the east or the only way to do it. Lame

Next beer is on me! Cheers

It's real hard to still hunt on a 2 acre parcel of land.
