Having bought some custom molds made in the USA, I thought I would try a mold maker from Slovenia.
MP-Molds

I bought a .359-640 mold
for US$93 + delivery
It arrived a week later in a well packed box.

Sydney was raining almost constantly for the last couple of weeks so I cannot try the mold because I cast my bullets only outdoors.

Anyhow, yesterday is the first "dry" Sunday we got, and off to cast I go..
I can say WOW!!! WOW!! WOW!!

Once the mold got to heat, the projectile came out really nice, no hangups at all in the mold,
the projectile is almost perfect round at .359 ±0.0005
the weight of projectile (with pentagonal HP) is 160gn ±0.5gn

With the two cavity, I managed to churn out about 400 projectiles in 90 minutes..
The pile have almost no reject, any reject there is are usually my fault where I dropped the proj on top of another and dent the edges etc.
Never I use such a well behaved mold..
Pity there are only very limited selections of molds available.
I could have use some .308 and .458 molds as well..

Well.. MP-Molds got Gelandangan's seal of approval

i would like to start by saying thank you to everyone on this forum. ive been skulking around for a few months now mostly just reading (i figure theres always something more to learn) and i have gained a lot of useful tidbits from all of you so ThankYou..and now....ive never tried casting bullets and im not a pistol fan (only own 2), but is it possible to cast decent and reliable bullets for modern centerfire rifles or is it better to just stick with "store bought" bullets?

It's not only possible JC...but many of us do it mate...I know I do.

When you cast for rifle, you should/need to crimp a Gas Check (GC) onto the base of the bullet. This allows for rifle velocities with a minimum of leading in the bore. Check out the link below for a heap of information on casting bullets.

Cast Boolits

Unless of course you are a slow shooter like me, IMHO shooting up to 1600 fps do not require gas check provided your projectile have adequate lubrications AND have a good fit to the barrel lands and grooves.

My 45-70 Buffalo Classic only eats cast boolits, and they groups at about 5cm (2 inch) in 200 meters.
My Whisper bullet holes almost always touch or cut each other at 100 meters.
So I do not think cast boolits have any problem in the accuracy area.

PS. My .357 casting are destined to be for both my SW686 AND my Rossi PUMA rifle.
Apparently they are really accurate.. which I would prove by shooting them as soon as I could.

True Gelan...at the slower velocities...but when you start to step up a bit, then a gas check is a definite advantage mate. I even gas checked the projectiles in my 30.30 TC Contender...just to be sure. Very Happy Laughing

True at higher velocity gas checks will improve the accuracy.

There are Aluminum soda can checks taht could pe fitted to a plain base lead proj.
That would increase the velocity envelope up to 2500 fps.
At higher velocity, copper is the way to go.
