Barnes TTSX is what I'd go with. Yeah, its a premium bullet with a premium price, but your after elk so you need a tough bullet.

nosler balistic tips are just fine and dandy on deer IF you dont load the plurry things too hot. I shot a red hind infront of nearside shoulder and it went right through her lengthwise taking a large hunk of rear leg on way out. they do dramatic things when pushed too fast but work fine at the speed they were built for. they certainly shot accurately enough, why dont I still use them...? too expensive for me.

Shocked Last elk that I got was with a 165 gr hpbt sierra out of the old '06!I have a 7mm mag,and it's load is a 162 gn spspitzer with 4831 pushin it and it is a 1" shooter @ 100 yds!Normally I carry a 338winmag for elk in this thick western oregon jungle. No worry about penetration ,and it will shoot thru the smaller trees/limbs!(just jokein)! Laughing

The last Elk that I shot was with a Remington Core-Lokt 170 grain flat point.

Forked horn and it went down after about 25 yards to a lung/heart shot.

Ummmm....I never even seen an elk let alone shot one.

Main deer species I go after is fallow, and they are nice and small and a .243 is ideal.

I pretty much refuse to use barnes bullets. They are great but why spend the money on them when there are products out there that are just as good and nearly half the price. No offense to yous barnes lovers. I am a huge supporter of Nosler cause they are from my home state for one and they make a great bullet.
I do know speer 160gr sp in a big seven backed by h4831sc sure shoots good and straight. This may be the best recipe I have produced yet.
I like to hear everyones openion on this subject.
I have killed a lot with cheap ole core-lokt but I am done with cheap bullets, I have a lot of quality ammo just waiting to be made up so I am going to start pumping them out til I find one that I like best and stick with it.
