There was a lot of shooting going on, mainly on bigger water, the creeks and potholes were empty. I'm guessing someone beat me to my favorite spots. We floated one creek for 3 hours only to see three ducks, 2 were waaay out and one unlucky woody drake donated his body to taxidermy. Most of the shooting came from an area that I like to hunt but I was to lazy to work my way into. That figures!!!!!

The dogs were so happy to be out they forgot how to act. My chocolate lab has developed a slight problem, she is afraid of EVERY THING. So I had my wife work with her as I found a duck just for her. She started getting back to her normal self once I got the duck for her.

Ah, that is why I do not like to go with a dog the first day of the season, unless the owner has taken them out several times before, just to get the wrinkles ironed out, after a year's layoff. You remember how to hunt but the dog alas, has a problem with long term memory..... like anything past 15 minutes. Very Happy

It is also why I do not own a hunting dog anymore. I just do not have the time to train and keep them trained up.

But, glad you and the Mrs had a good time and got the dog going OK. Sure is great to watch when they get their head screwed on right.
Best,
Ed

My Black has gotten back into it already, she lives for birds.

The Chocolate has got a long way to go but she's pretty young.

Have fun with those labs, ya gotta just love em. Going to take mine out for ducks for the first time next week. Not something we have trained for as we don't have any ducks around here where I live. Will be fun to see how she takes to ducks and duck hunting. Smile

As long as it has anything to do with birds them labs just love it. My black will go until she can't move any more.
