My season started with a thud this morning. On the way to work a nice buck decided he wanted to pull out in front of me and run down my lane. Needless to say the buck was no match for my Ram at 60 mph. I hit him very hard I am surprised the airbag didn't go off, he was skidding down the road right along side of me. It didn't do to much damage just the bumper and a little plastic, I'm sure it is going to be close to $1000.00 to fix.

Our ML season was a month ago, hunting in 80-90 degree weather was rough but on the 3rd day I ran across a buck and made a great shot at 140 yards. It was heading up a STEEP hill nearly straight away from me. Bullet entered right between the shoulders and exited out the brisket.
Our Rifle deer season started this past Saturday, my wife stalked up within 150 yards of a nice meat buck and drilled it right through the center with her .243Win. It went on a death run but not knowing how hard she hit it with the first shot, she took another shot as it was heading through the thick brush. As it entered a clearing with its head down, she took a shot that hit it in the neck, exited and hit the antler at the first branch blowing it off then exiting through the ear.
It was rather amusing after we got up to it and saw what had taken place. Great followup shot though.

I hit that one so hard that it was just jello inside the hide, but someone picked it up. I could feel the back was broke in several places and some serious road rash on both sides and the back, there was no way I wanted that one. If I would have had the car this morning he would have easily totaled it. I sure hope that isn't the only one I see this year, but I just don't want to see anymore on the road!!!!

Around here deer collisions are very common, I didn't even call the DNR or the Sheriff. If you want the critter you are supposed to call it in and they will give you a possession tag to have it processed.

I hope you buck slid all the way back down the hill to you Dallan...would have been a real bugger to have to go up and get him. |
Oh man, as the bullet flys it was only 150 yards away... between us though was a ravine that went straight down and straight back up. Getting it to the bottom was easy. I couldnt walk on the slope back up so I drug it down the ravine another 500 yards to a road i was able to get the ATV down to. It was alot of work but deer are where you find them, they cant all be standing in the road waiting to get shot :).

Your missus sounds like she is one helluva shot mate...she done real good. As an aside...don't upset her mate...she shoots far too well for you to escape easily.
Cheers, Vince |
Its true, she is a really good shot. She's shot I think 15 deer in the 17 years we've been married. She also has shot an elk, a caribou and 6 or 7 pronghorn antelope. Shes killed deer with Muzzleloaders and even one with a bow. Its been alot of fun for sure.

Is that how you tenderize your venison?

Dont mess with Mrs. Dallan! Ever!
Or Weirsy's truck.
My bro-in-law's F-150 got tagged, almost totalled it, had it fixed, got hit again in the exact same spot 3 weeks after getting back. Talk about luck.

My Ram will be sporting a nice new HEAVY DUTY aftermarket bumper with cow catcher. No more worrying about road goats.
