This really hits me today... for Christmas I gave my boy a Mossburg 20GA 500 Super Bantam and yesterday we went out trap shooting for the first time. Took him 4 shots to get the hang of it and break his first bird, shortly there after he broke 3 in a row. I figured after 10 or so rounds he would want to stop due to sore shoulder... nada, he blew threw an entire box in nothing flat breaking 12 out of 25. Not too shabby for his first ever time shooting trap. Very proud dad!
I really look forward to this years upcoming small game seasons!

Sure do Stovey, I can remember back in late 60's toting a 410 on my shoulder walking to my favorite hunting spot about 2 miles from where I lived and nobody batted an eye at me. Waiting for the weekends when Dad and I would head out into the woods during the hunting season.
Always looking forward to the deer season with Dad and us heading up north, now I share them memories and adventures with my kids. And yup, Dad always woke me up at 3:30am to get ready and it only took 1 time.

Great pic Stovey...and yup...I can remember that time...a time of common sense, respect and trust.
That is awesome Dallan...but you do realise that you have probably created a "monster"....25 targets per round, 2 shots per target if needed, so 50 shots per round at "X" $ per box, plus the cost of the targets. I hope you and your boy have a great time smokin' them clays mate...it's as addictive as all get out, and a heck of a lot of fun too. Now all ya gotta do is get the missus bustin' them too mate. Tell the young fella I'm proud of him mate...12 on his first outing is nothing to sneeze at by a long shot.
Cheers, Vince

Candles? Ya mean them new fangled waxy things with the string down the middle? I remember when we used whale oil in a brass dish with a piece of cotton for a wick.
I remember back when I was a kid and getting up early to hunt rabbits with my bow and arrows that I had made myself (came from a poor family). Dad was not a hunter. Shot a pheasant on the fly with that bow once.

My bow was pocket knife wittled cedar limb. The arrows were made of any straight wood I could find in the surrounding forest. Fletching was from some very upset chickens. Needed thier wing feathers. Arrow heads were made from my neighbors dad's .30 caliber M1 carbine, flattened at the case head with hammer and anvil and glued onto the shaft.
The whale oil was a bit harder to hunt for. Decided that I needed a bigger bow and much larger arrows.

Yup...Got to where I could "bark" squirrels of the side of a tree with those brass tipped arrows.
Didn't have "wet suits" in those days.
Now I need a shotgun to hit the broad side of a barn, standing inside with all the doors shut and the windows boarded over...
ByTheWay. Speaking of wooden ships and iron men. I retired from the Navy serving on a wooden ship. USS Pledge (MSO-492)...
