I had a record that I purchased on e-bay that went from Florida clear up to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and actually went out for delivery before the mail delivery man noticed the misstake and sent on its way back to Ava, Missouri.
Maybe if they [the government] privitized the postal system it would run a bit more efficiently

It supposedly IS privatized but the government still controls it.
I once had a package shipped to me insured Priority Mail from a location about 35 miles distant as the crow flies that took about 10 days to reach me.
Another time I mailed a check to my bank which is about 15 miles from where I now live. It took about 30 days to reach my bank.
When we first moved to the farm, we had what my wife referred to as "the mail bitch." Though we have a 55 foot covered front porch, she would leave packages in front of the garage out in the weather, complained that our mail box was too low, misdelivered mail, etc. I finally got someone's attention when I told them that in the future if we got someone else's mail, I was going to return it to the Postmaster General in Washington, DC.
A real privatized system would be good where they could fire the lazy and incompetent ones.

Unions and tenure would still make it hard to fire anyone. But you and I are on the same page. Yup, I knew that it was privatized to some extent. I believe it is a "contract" deal. If so, we need a new contracter.

D-- ,,, ya'll get some fast devilries with the postal service, had one come in back in january that was sent back to the shipper as soon as it got to the post office , the rural carrier is was too LAZY to deliver.
This is the reason that on most of my gun related orders I get and pay more so I can have tracking numbers .

I will have to give credit to my mail carrier. She is a little thing, but will deliver my reloading components to my front porch. Even the 2,000 bullets in one box. If it doesn't fit in my box she puts it on my porch. She has to drive up my driveway to get to my porch.

Our old "mail bitch" went or was sent elsewhere several years ago. The current one is very nice and gets a yearly Christmas present.

Here's what happened to a Christmas present I ordered from BassPro for my boy... it never did arrive:
Incompetence at work! I kept a screen shot of the tracking history to show people how stupid the postal service can be.

Stolen en route mate.
What they do is steal the contents & scan the wrapper complete with barcode through several sites with the collusion of their mates & then throw the wrapper away.
Had a gang caught & jailed here recently for just that - unsurprisingly they were all "migrant workers" from Eastern Europe.

Mine wasnt stolen... it came right to my house but the postal employee was a temp for the day, couldnt figure out where to leave it so he marked it as a bad address and sent it back where it bounced around the country for too long then was returned back to BassPro.

I had a similar problem with UPS. I found a note on my gate saying that they'd tried to deliver a package requiring a signature and no one was home. After two more tries the package would be returned to the shipper. Problem is that I WAS home and never heard a horn or knock. The next day I was watching for the guy. He hopped out of the truck, stuck another note on my gate and left. I chased him down in the car. When I caught him I asked if he was trying to deliver a package to me and showed ID. He said yes and gave me the package. I told him "Next time you should actually TRY to deliver it. I was standing at the door when you came by." I called UPS for what it was worth, which is probably nothing.
