This morning was the Utah Rifle deer hunt. My wife was the only one with a tag as me and my boy tagged out on the muzzle loader hunt.
We had a couple chances this morning but wouldn't you know it, EVERY choice / decision we made was the worst one. Choose to walk on one side of a hill, kick out deer to people on the other. Send wife to the left, a herd of deer came running down the right etc etc. Everyone got shooting but us this morning.
Lots of people, well more than double last year.
Went back up this evening and immediately started seeing deer coming out to feed. Traveled across a few different points to glass and suddenly we stumble across a nice fat buck that my wife drilled perfectly at 75 yards with her .243. It ran down out of sight and came to a stop less than 10 yards from a road. Gotta love that! Wife is happy, I'm happy I didn't have to drag something out of some deep canyon... I get to sleep in tomorrow... its an awesome day!
That makes 5 out of 6 tags filled, the final tag (an antlerless elk tag for my boy) runs from now till jan 31st so that ones nearly guaranteed. Really need to consider a second freezer.

Congrats, I should say you need another freezer, especially if your son gets the elk!
Are there cow elk tags available over the counter in your area for non-residents?

Haha if we all lived closer we'd surely have some meetups. Its kindof amazing how far across the globe members here are scattered. Pretty cool actually.
Anywho we are just about done cutting my up and vacuum packing my wifes deer. The good thing about elk is they are so big I just pay someone to do them... 550 to 650lbs on the hoof, no way I'd do one of them myself.

Congrats to the wife Dallan. Glad to hear someone is having a good season. Sure hope that boy a yors gets that elk. I am going to for a cow this year, in February. If I manage to fill that tag it will be my first elk. My wife has a buck tag and a doe tag as do I. If can fill those I will be happy. I am also going for a bear which I have yet to get. My wife got her first deer last year with her doe tag and was lucky enough to draw the same tag again this year which is nearly unheard of. I wish sometimes my family could afford to have elk tended to but unfortunately we do all the work no matter what animal it is we get.
Again, congrats Dallan to your wife, son and you for a good season and I hope you have many more.

10 yards from the road .......... isn't that considered cheating !!!
Congrats on her.
