Aloys sent me a couple of pics to post of his new hunting companion…what an amazing looking bird. I’ll open this tread for him with the pics.

Introducing…SIBELLE

Aloys, it would be great to see her in action. Happy hunting!

In this case, should ballastic coefficient be substituted with "Attitude "?
Great photos Aloys.

Thanks Vince. I tried to put these pictures here but I think the nut in me didn't succeed or didn't try enough.

Those pictures are taken on the first day of arrival at my place. You see she is still a little bit angry and ready to attack anything that would approach her.

eeyou: I see that in Quebec they understand French... short story: long time ago I had a male Jack Russel named "Sibeau". Now I was waiting to get a bird of prey for starters, a Harris Hawk. While waiting I already decided it had to be a female and I chose "Sibelle" as her name. Peter, my friend and mentor, hunts the falcon and an eagle. He doesn't like the 'soft' character of a Harris, so he got me a "little eagle": the Redtail. Not a bird for beginners, but I'm old and Sibelle is very young, so it could be a good match Smile Sibelle is born the 1st May this year in "Greifvogelstation Hellenthal" in Germany).
To be honnest: I would never have started all this without the direct help of my friend and his wife. It's to easy to make mistakes and ruin such a beautifull creature.

And everything is still going very good: in 2 days time Sibelle started eating from my glove, 3 days later she jumped to my glove, again 2 days later she jumps/flies 2-3 m to my glove... this evening she should come from a greater distance and soon she should do all this without being attached to the long line...

I still don't know anything about falconery, but last week I learned 1 thing: I should have started this 50 years ago. Luckely I never knew what I've missed!

Very interesting.
I have seen many youtube videos and movies about hunting with a bird, but I have never experienced it myself.

It's still going great. Yesterday she came to the glove from about 5 m, today she seemed to like flying that much that she overcame 20-30 m. One time she landed on my shoulder, but that was most certainly my fault because she is about perfect. When I could have known her some 40 years ago, I would have married her Smile
On the other hand I've learned not to make conclusions to fast too...

Thanks, I need it. At this moment, on another field and at greater distances, she comes 2 or 3 times and then looses interest. It seems she is still a little bit high in weight. We are playing "no come = no feed" and try/wait till things changes. So she is showing her own will and tries to train me... lucky I have a good mentor, if not I would already have shortened the distance and she would have won. It's very annoying when suddenly all surroundings are more important than her boss... nobody said it would be easy... it's not a dog that likes to please his boss...

Sounds like you are on top of things mate. Don’t back down, don’t let Sibelle become the boss…train her up to be a friend that does as she is directed.
