Is anybody using them ..... if so how did they perform? How was the accuracy ...? I have been thinking of trying the 300 gr TSX in my 45-70. I used some 180 gr barnes X in my 30-06 some years ago and they worked just fine on an Elk, they certainly penetrated very well.

By the way ..... the DVD I got from Barnes a year or two ago sure makes them look impressive.

1895,
I have gone strickly to the Barnes TSX in my 300 Win mag and 257 Wtby mag. I can say that working up an accurate load was impressively easy. Every caliber that I have used them in definately liked them. As far as performance on game, I have not had any failures either. They definatley penetrate well and hold together well. I have never recovered a bullet from a carcass, and have never found any sort of shrapnel within the carcass. On the other hand, shot placement is still absolutely imparitive as it is with any bullet/caliber/game/situation. They will definately go through bones (front legs/shoulders) and still get to the vitals. The most impressive thing I have found is that the accuracy these bullets can achieve out of firearms that seemed they could never shoot sub MOA. I have spent countless hours trying dial in a round in certain rifles and could never get them to shoot sub MOA. Try a TSX and they would shoot sub MOA with any combination of ingredients.

I am certain that others probably do not like them as well as I, and have not had as good of luck with them as I have. But they perform exceptionally well for me.

Thanks Meeker, that is what I wanted to know. I don't know of anybody around here that has tried them. Thanks again Smile

Meeker how is your velocity? I know Barnes said with XLCs and Tripleshocks to go a couple grains over max to achieve higher velocities. I never could get XLCs to shoot worth a damn but man they were fasssstttt! You didnt know where they'd end up but they got there really quick, hahaha.

I've held off on trying triple shocks due to the amount of money I blew trying to get XLCs to shoot.

My major hurdle is that my rifle is a 7STW and the rounds have to be seated fairly deep to clear the magazine. I'm no where near the lands... like more than half an inch! I know alot of freebore is what weatherbys are based and it works. I've gotten sub inch groups with factory Remington ammo so I know the gun itself can shoot *really* good. Just everything that shoots accurately is coming out the end quite slow. Why own a 7STW if you can only get reasonable accuracy on a round going a mere 100fps over a .270? I just want a 140grn bullet I can shoot accurately around 33-3400fps

Maybe I'll try some triple shocks...

1895,
Your welcome bud. I think they are worth a try if your looking for accuracy, velocity and penetration.

Dallan,
Ruger 300 win mag, 26" barrel: 82 gn rl-22, Fed 215m primers, 150 gn TSX, 3500 fps
Successful on Mule deer, Antelope, and Elk.

257 Wtby, 24" barrel: 68.5 gn rl-22, Fed 215M Primer, 115 gn TSX, 3400 fps
Have not taken this gun to the feild yet, but my hunting partner shot a 305" bull elk with this very same load this past season.

The all copper bullet does not seem to foul the barrel as bad as some of the others, which I find is an added benefit as well.

I don't want to sound like a commercial for these, but they are worth at least 1 try. I think you will like them.

Well I was thinking that the 300 gr Barnes TSX in my 45-70 would give me a bit more velocity, shoot a bit flatter then 350 or 405 gr bullets, give me a bit more range and still penetrate well. ............... I think I'm talking myself into another reloading experiment. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Meeker, I certainly will. It will be a project for down the road a bit, maybe not till spring beacause the road to my shooting area is getting blocked with snow.

DallanC: you are so close to American Fork, why not drop by Barnes and talk to some of the PR people and get a few samples FREE? Tell them about the website and that you will publish the results.

1895ss: I load the TSX for all big game rifles. In general they afford better accuracy and higher velocity than the X or Nosler Partition. Results on game have been uniformly outstanding. With the TSX's relief grooves, pressures are reduced when compared to an X bullet. Too, going to a lighter bullet is norm with the TSX as the penetration is radically improved over conventional bullets. Therefore, there is higher velocity, flatter trajectory as well.

Heh I drive past them on my way to work each morning. I've actually talked to them in the past via email and they offered to give me a tour of the place. I've never had the time to follow up on it though.

Anyway I stopped off at Sportsmans Warehouse and picked up some 140grn TSX bullets... I'll give'em a go. Prolly wont get around to doing any shooting until the spring though.
