Morax...It has been proven that extreme punishments don't stop crime...It will still be with us. Altough if you are missing a hand at least I know who you really are. Capital punishment means that I don't have to feed, cloth and feed you for the rest of your miserible life. Also means that there is one less killer. I wonder if a theif can steal if he has no hands??? I've heard of hunt and peck typing, but never stump typing... |
i aint touching the stump typing at all! hahah very true but if ya lop off a finger or two whats he gonna steal bowling balls and key rings? i do see and definatly agree with what you said though, but it will put a second thought into some of them, a better deterant than leaving the front door open.
GIL- who was it from pittsburgh that supported that bill? I didnt see no names i recognised

Morax,
Here is what the link says:
Pennsylvania Gun Registration Legislation Introduced!
Please Contact Your State Legislators Today!
The Gun Registration Act of 2007, House Bill No. 760, sponsored by State Representatives Angel Cruz (D-180), Rosita Youngblood (D-198), Cherelle Parker (D-200), Jake Wheatley (D-19), Lisa Bennington (D-21), and Lawrence Curry (D-154) has been introduced in Harrisburg.
This misguided proposal would require every gun in Pennsylvania to be registered with the state, and each firearm would have to be re-registered annually. The registration would cost law-abiding gun owners $10 per gun each year. Of course, criminals won’t pay anything BECAUSE CRIMINALS DON'T REGISTER GUNS! In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Haynes v. U.S. (309 U.S. 85 (1968)) that since felons are prohibited from owning firearms, compelling them to register them would violate their 5th Amendment rights against self-incrimination. However, if a law-abiding gun owner fails to register it, he or she will be jailed and lose his or her rights FOREVER.
The measure would require each gun owner submit to fingerprinting, have a background check, and to include passport-style photos for the registration cards. The registration card for each gun would then have to be carried with that gun at all times. To make matters worse, if the state should reject your application for any reason, YOUR GUNS WILL BE CONFISCATED!
Please call your State Representative today at (717) 787-2372 and your State Senator at (717) 787-5920 and ask them to oppose HB760!
Enough is enough!
It's time for all Pennsylvania NRA members’ voices to be heard!
To find further contact information or help identifying your legislators
please use the ";Write Your Representative" feature found at www.NRAILA.org.
All the best...
Gil

Sounds like Pennsylvania seceded and joined Canada without any of you noticing. I believe the important point was about the criminals, this does nothing to deter them. |
Canada nothing mate.....they've come over to Australia. This is pretty much exactly what we have here in Aussie !!!!!!
You also have to apply for a Permit To Acquire (cost $23) just to buy another firearm...even privately....then you have to pay a dealer (usually$11) to put it through his books to "transfer" it to you !!!!!
Oppose this law guys....its the start of "death by a thousand cuts" which is what I call our Firearm Laws.....once they have a win, even a small one, they keep nibbling away at your rights until they have taken everything away from you...BASTARDS !!!!
Cheers, Vince

The really great thing about the gun registry law in Canada is the billions (correct me if I'm wrong on the amount fellow Canucks, 'Mitir or 1895 will know) that the feds have spent on it and they all agree that it's a big waste of money because it isn't working and yet no one has the stones to get rid of it.
I agree wholeheartedly with Vince, fight 'em tooth and nail guys, we seemed to just be sitting there minding our own business and suddenly it passed in the House and here we are.

You yanks have to fight this bill tooth and nail. As said earlier we in canada have found out how ineffective these laws are and how much they cost everyone. I don't mind a back ground check when buying a gun but these laws do nothing to prevent crime. I could RAVE for hours on this. Make some noise down there guys!!!

At least four of the five Democratic representatives from Philadelphia or Pittsburgh who originally signed on as cosponsors have since announced that they were pulling their support.
"I just think we need to engage in a conversation around breaking down the different aspects that contribute to the rising violence in our streets," said Rep. Jake Wheatley (D., Allegheny), who became a cosponsor before reading the entire bill. He said he later determined that it was "extreme" and wanted to have his name taken off the bill.

Don't rest on your laurels, fight it every inch of the way. It's no good saying "It will never get passed". This is how, we, in the UK, have some of the most restrictive gun laws in the world. Just because of two incidents, years apart, when 2 apparently sane gun owners, flipped their lids and caused a lot of deaths (nowhere near in total as your recent tragedy).
My sympathy goes out to the people who have lost loved one's but please try to remember what has been posted before over similar events. I remember a copy of a letter by a mother who had lost a child , I think, which was very heart rendering, but the main thing is, it's not guns that kill people, it's people that kill people!
