The absolute worst gun was a Charter Arms .22 semi auto pistol. It would stovepipe every 3rd round and the trigger pull was like dragging a rusty nail across a piece of rock, although the trigger did eventually smooth out and it stopped stovepiping. The only problem was that it then turned itself into a full auto pistol, a short braap, and all 10 rounds were out. Finally just disassemled it and broke up the pieces. |
Charter Firearms Company made a ".22 semi auto pistol" with all these problems, especially stove piping????
I'm sorry, i've been working on Charter brand guns (and many others) for a number of years now, but i am very interested to see their semi (going full) auto pistol when i have only seen them make revolvers! And i find it very hard to believe that a pistol of any make (knowing machining and smithing) would just go into pieces upon disassembly!
If i am wrong, i will kindly apologise and retract my post!
Peace

They removed the stock of their "survival rifle" and put a pistol grip on it as well as a shortened barrel. The barrel unscrewed from the reciever, which was made of stamped tin (or at least it seemed more like tin than steel) it used the same magazines as the rifel and carried a spare in the handle. One other problem was that the bolt handle fell out after about 200 rounds. You had to use a screw driver to cock it. The plastic grips also melted the first time it was cleaned when a little bore cleaner got on them.
I took the whole thing down to tiny pieces in about 15 minutes with a screwdriver and a hammer and threw them in the garbage where it belonged.

Well, i stand 'somewhat' corrected so in any event i am Sorry.
Although i have never heard it as, nor referred to, but only as an AR-7 or AR-20. That which yes, is a semi auto 22 broom handle esque pistol, which incedently it was a modified version of their AR-20 with only the tubular stock removed (and has somewhat of a resemblance of the hybrid pistol/rifle look or more like a TC Encore with a pistol grip, 14" barrel, with a magwell right infront of the trigger guard).
And yes as well, it had a good....bang, jam, jam, bang, bang, bang, jam, ring to it.
The problem i had seen, (which did solve a lot "but not all" chamber related problems) was the receiving end of the chamber needed chamfering so the bullet won't hang up on a sharp corner upon being fed from the magazine. But you know, too much work did need to be done, but when it was, it still was a pretty unreliable firearm!

Savage 12BVSS in 308. Now with a Douglas barrel from Sharp Shooters Supply, it is the 3rd best gun I own (rifle that is).

Easy! A Romanian .22 training rifle. Not too bad accuracy wise, but it would not feed from the magazine. It made a passable single shot, though, the empties would drop right through the magazine well. A co worker wanted the magazine for an extra for his, and I told him I'd sell it to him for $35, and throw in the rifle. I finally sold it to a gunshop.

Ruger Mini14. 5 to 6" at 100 with a 12 power scope! Factory loads, including match loads and dozens of different handloads. I have a 112 Savage in .223 that shoots my handload into 1/2" Finally gave up and sold the darn thing!

Put me down for a Ruger Mini-14 as well. Sold it to a guy that watched me shoot it, just had to have it and "knew" he could shoot it better :-?.

Well, now that I've had a few weeks to work on it my worst gun of all time may well be my most recent, a Remington 700BDL in .25-06. I've tried about a dozen different loads in most weights and still can't get that sucker to group better than about 1 1/3" groups (5 at 100yds.). Before I ever took it to the range I had the action glass bedded, the barrel floated and the trigger lightened. If I return it to Remington they'll only say that it is within acceptable range. I figured closer to .5" would be more representative at the range. If I can't get better performance than this it will be my last Remington. These things aren't cheap anymore. I'm hearing a lot of people complain about their new rifles lately. Maybe there's just too much emphasis on the bottom line, and quality gone all to hell in the process. Best wishes.

Worst........believe it or not it was a Tika T-3. I know what you're thinking. Probably a rookie shooter right? Wrong. I shoot a variety of calibers in many different makes and models. And I reload for every one of them. I know what they like and what they don't like. Been doing this for more years than I care to count. This Tika didn't like Jack%^*! Traded it in on a Savage. What a great shooting rifle. Oh well.......goes to show everyone is capable of a POS now and then.

worst gun for hunting ever made in my opinion is the sks/ak.
people believe they are great deer killers and they will kill deer if your a expert shot or just danged lucky but for the average person they are a wounding firearm where the deer run off and die and are never found.
i got one when they were cheap and went hunting. the first deer boom one shot hit his spine down he went but the next 4 i shot.
the first one i hit in the heart area at 50 yards using a scope was found 3 days later 2 miles away {10 point buck wasted}
the second was hit at 100 yards in the neck and was never found.
the third i head shot at 150 yards and we still see it time to time running from the pond looking like a indian scalped it.
the forth i ended up shooting in the chest then tracked a half mile then shot in the heart then tracked a quarter mile then shot in the head at 20 yards and had to use my p[istol for a final head shot to keep down.
just because a gun can kill deer doesnt mean its a deer gun.
ive deer hunted 40 years and killed a hundred deer and the sks is a gun i will never shoot at deer again.
people posting on these kind of sites are as a rule not normal hunters and can kill deer with a sks/ak but the average hunter wastes way to many animals that run off and are never found {tracking wounded animals is becoming a extint art} and people using unsuitable hunting arms gives hunting a bad name.

My worst gun was a Mod. 1300 winchester 12 ga. pump.
It was me more than the gun, but when I was shooting at game I would always eject the second and fourth shell on the ground, Go figure.
I sold it .

Remington autoloader in 30-06. Worst rifle ever made, or at least worst barrel. You all talk about a 4 inch group, that thing was lucky to even hit the target much less at the same spot.
I tried different loads for it too, before selling it to my city cousin.

The worst rifle I ever bought was my first deer rifle almost 40 years ago and it was a Lee Enfield 303 British. You couldn't hit a 5 gal pail at 100 yrds with it. A year later I bought a 30-06 in a Parker Hale and was shocked at how well it shot. That's all I used for about 10 yrs until I started buying more guns and diff calibers. I still have that Parker Hale and it gets used by one of my sons from time to time and still shoots great.
