Does anyone here know anything about the 7mm JDJ?
I have a friend with a 7mm JDJ Contender barrel, and since SSK Industries doesn't load ammo any longer, he's having trouble finding some.
He's asked me if I would load some for him, if he buys the dies, which I don't have a problem with, IF I find a safe load (for both the loader and the shooter). He says he has load data provided by JD Jones to the last guy he had loading for him, but also indicated that the fired rounds "didn't look right"...
I'm waiting for him to show me what "didn't look right" means, but I suspect that the rounds were fired from freshly formed brass, and that virgin brass may differ in appearance significantly from fire-formed brass.

I received a return email from Mr. Jones.
He's provided me with his load data for the 7 mm round. My friend will be shipping him the fired cases in question.

7MM JDJ is based on the 225 Winchester
The Whisper 7MM is based on the 221 Fireball

When I talked to my friend and aske about the parent case, he thought it was a .308 Win. I asked it might be stamped 307, which would actually make his barrel a 7 MM JDJ 2 (If I understood what I read online correctly).

Hello, new here... 1st post.
The original 7mmJDJ was on the .225 Winchester as previosly stated.
So was the .226JDJ .257JDJ,6mmJDJ, .270JDJ & the 6.5mmJDJ.
The .225 is a rimmed case.
As to the cartridge mentioned looking like a .308....I doubt it.
JD always used rimmed cases for his wildcats in the original Contender and the .308 is rimless. But the .307 Winchester is basically a rimmed version of a .308, so that may be what it is?
That would be consistant with being the 7mmJDJ #2, also stated.
I think JD did a 7mm on the 30-30 case which would be like a 7-30 Waters Ackley-Improved type thing?
If this barrel is on the .225 brass and is a JDJ barrel (not a re-chamber), AND the owner don't want it.....I'd be interested in it.
I have dies for the JDJ #1 and use .225 brass for .226JDJ & 6.5mmJDJ.
I just never got the 7mmJDJ barrel.

I have a 7mmx30 Waters JDJ and lost my reloading info due to divorce and need to get load info! I had the Nosler BT 140 grain loaded over Varget at a crooned fps of 2350 can anyone enlighten me on this or another load with that bullet as it preformed really well on white tails and black bears. This load grouped three shots in an inch at 100 yds! The 7x30Waters JDJ is based on a 30 30 case and fire formed!

J.D. Jones wrote an excellent article in the 6th edition of Cartridges of the World. While he covers the7x30 Waters based JDJ unfortunately he doesn't include a sample loading. He does state that it is ballistically the same as the 7mmJDJ#2 which is based on the 307 win cartridge. He indicates using the 7x30 cases for fire forming which are simply neck downed 30-30 cases.
A good starting point would be the Varget load for the 7x30 and the 139 grain bullet. This data can be found on the Hodgdon site.

Hope this helps and welcome to the Hunting Nuts forum.

If you have cases formed from 307 then you have the second generation 7mm JDJ.
The first generation was based on the 256 Winchester, I believe.
I believe the load info doesn't interchange. - Be careful...
