yes i do mix powders sometimes and i measure pressures using a piezo guage. the 45 acp loads are just over 14k psi using the 680 and getting 900 fps. So byt the sammi pressure on a 45 acp which is 20k psi if there was room in the shell for more powder i could increase the velocity more. Now i know you can get 900 fps on a 230 gr bullet and be a lot more economical on powder use (using 16.5 gr per shell) versus some of the faster powders that use 6 or 7gr. So before all you naysayers who are scared of this stuff im not just arbitrarily picking powders and mixing a little of this and a little of that. I wasnt asking either for a bunch of people to say oh no you didnt follow the manuals everybody run... I was simply asking if anyone else was working or had worked int he past on similar stuff and what their experiences were with it.

So how does that piezo hook up to a 45 ACP ??? Could you post some pics ???

Whats the purpose of a unconventional load @ 900 FPS when you can do it with a conventional load ?

i have an old shot out barrel that is drilled in the chamber and i use a solid rod in place of the recoil spring to hold the gun locked closed.

Having trouble understanding how your locking the gun, pics would help !!!

There's got to be alot of stress created on the gun by locking it the way your implying !!!

creates no more pressure. the gun stays locked till after the bullet is out of the barrel anyways. i use a threaded rod wth one end welded to the back spring guide the other end is hex head same dia as barrel busing lock. screw it down then back out with the nut againt the barrel bushing putting tension just like the spring would.locks the gun up nice and tight. got the idea from one of the 1911 guide rods. you could modify one of them to work to.

oh and to answer your question about why the unconventional load? i say why not, why not try new things if you have the equipment and experience to? why only go by the guide books are they some sort of holy grail that cannot be deviated from? does no one else on here experiment with different loads or is everyone a by the book person here? sounds to me like people on this forum who arent by the book are just open to endless ridicule about how unsafe you are and you have no need to do anything thats not by the book. I have been reloading over 20 years and i load several thousands of rounds per year. i reload every day have 4 presses load for over 20 diff calibers currently and have never had a gun go boom on me nor even come close to it nor had bullets stuck in my barrels on the other end of the spectrum. so i think my personal safety record speaks for itself. i wasnt trying to start some sort of conflict on here and id appreciate people posting who have something positive to contribute to the origional post not detractors and naysayers.

Using a modified handgun as a test barrel is not having the right equipment to do these type of experiments.

Handloader...I was taught by an old codger (like me now) a while back (really not that long ago) that unless you had a shop and gallary set up just for doing these kind of experiments that it should be left entirely up to the lab experts.

well like i was saying if you arent comfortable with something by all means you should not try it. I dont know why all the ridiculing for those of us who do try new things. I dont mean to sound like a cliche here but there are a lot of things that would have never been had it not been for people doing things new. Take the 8mm mauser cartridge for example --almost all the modern cartridged 30-06 6mm rem 308 270 and on and on were based off of this cartridge and people trying new things with it.should everyone have just bowed down and said well here is a cartridge that works no one try anything different because this one works there is no need for anything new. So if you want to say leave it to someone else thats your perogative. Like Clint Eastwood said a mans got to know his limitations.

You would think that someone that has been a member of this site for well over a year would have some idea that his unconventional ways would more than likely not be accepted !!!
Then criticize us for not accepting his ways !!!

You want to discuss the use of H110 in a 45 ACP and rainbow powder ???
Maybe a little background on yourself and some history like Handloader eluded too would have been a better approach at getting a discussion under way.

The only powders I have played with for my .45 ACPS is Bullseye (did not perform and dirty) AA #5 (Heat sensitive) AA #7 (My Colt loves it) W-231 (good clean burning powder and all around good performer) and WSF (I use this in my Kimber UCC II). I pretty much use 185 grain JHP (Remington, Hornady XTP and Rainier plated HP). No "slow" powders...

No one ever seems to talk about this one here or at least i havent seen it.

I wasnt asking specifically for h-110 i was simply asking for any powder that fell into the slow handgun powder/fast rifle powder range that anyone had maybe expierimented with and if they had what were your results. If you have not tried this or arent interested in trying it and or talking about it in a positive way i see no need of you posting a reply here as it doesnt contribute to the conversation at all.

And finally my background is i have 8 years experience in us army special forces team delta. i have handled a lot of explosives, weapons etc in my time. I have been reloading for around 20 years. I shoot and reload every day. Heck today i loaded about 400 223's. Just to give you an idea since christmas i have used about 22 lbs of powder reloading for 9mm,45acp,30-06,223,8X57,45-70,and shotgun.Thats not all i load for thats just what i been doing most of my shooting with this month. I really have no idea how many shells that is but like i said i go out and shoot a lot. I have my own person range 25,50,75,100,&220 yard target fixtures which i can shoot from an indoor enclosed shooting bench. I have 4 reloaders i use which the one that gets the most use is my Hornady LNLAP. A dedicated 9mm Lee progressive, and 2 older lyman turret presses for when im doing smaller lots of ammo.
