That I doubt I'll find something new. fnuser, you have always expanded my knowledge base. I may get to a case sizing press one day. I just watch what others go through to case size with the lube, cleaners, and tumblers and am just not ready for that. Give me more time.

Like I said before: If it works for you....

Besides, some fishermen go through life happy with a cane pole - others have to spend a fortune to still not catch any fish! Not a lot different than shooting.

Years ago, I had a Remington 742 in 308 Winchester that I took to a benchrest shoot and won first place. Not a huge accomplishment since there weren't many competitors but it beat the bolt rifles. It also shot more accurately than a National Match M1A. I would say there is excellent potential for accuracy.

Now the bad news. The bolt rails on the 742 aren't particularly durable. I probably put 2,000 rounds through mine before the rifle had to be returned to Remington for an overhaul. I don't think they make that model any longer so when yours breaks, it may be hard to get it repaired. Others have said that for me to get 2,000 trouble free rounds from mine was unusual and that they usually break sooner.

Got a break in the weather and no one in the house so I scampered off to the range. Now I've fired 21 cases with only a neck size from my AR. 15 fired once-fired and 6 twice fired. I'm going to mic the cases and see how they are stretching and if they are still in spec; case length and shoulder length.

You probably have already thought of this but usually the two trouble spots for auto's are the web area and the shoulders (i.e. headspace) even on extremely overpriced 100 yrd bench guns firing mild 6mm p.p.c. loads, with tight neck chambers, the shoulders have to be bumped back occasionally on brass that is used quite a bit. and these are bolt guns. I think you may be overthinking the process as the reason for saami min cases would be for ease of battery or the action closeing completely, you may gain some degree of accuracy but I guess what Single Shot says would come back around and the fun would be in the experience. I just wouldn't enjoy trying to get a stuck case out of an auto chamber that was jammed real good.

I agree. This is one of my concerns, e.g., jammed case, split case, etc.

I got to mic the cases. Compared to a new case there appearred to be no case growth with the Remington brass. All were +- a couple thousandths from a new case with only one being significantly longer and it was still within spec length. I did not get to measure the shoulder. That's another story.
