Bots are automated programs that troll the web searching for information, the best example I can think of is Google's bot that trolls the web for it's search engine as well as it's "ad sense" program. Sometimes when somebody post's an answer to a question on these forms, you can find the page on google search.

Yes.

There are thousands of bots out there. Google, Microsoft Bing, YANDEX, Yahoo and Baidu are the main bots I see show up that correctly identify themselves as bots.

There are alot of other bots though that dont identify themselves as a bot. These troll through sites for information regarding potential advertising and other information.

Managing them is a double edged sword. You want when someone types a search into google that HuntingNut shows up in the results... and the only way sites have to match searches to results, is to "crawl" the website ahead of time and store off information.

The bad news, we do get alot of bot traffic. The good news? We are popular enough that bots crawl HuntingNut frequently so their search results are more up to date.

Bots dont affect membership though.
