I figured you guys would know this one, or at least have a little imput for me on the topic. My next rifle will most likley be chamberd for .22-250, for varmit hunting (long shots). I just wanted to know who you all think makes the most accurate .22-250. Brand and Model?

Thanks,
Knifeboy

depends on the time of day, but if I had to make a guess I'd say a Bullberry barrel on an Encore frame.

There are so many accurate varminters in this caliber that you'd probably be hard pressed to pick a single one that is the best. I wouldn't even want to try. I have an old Savage 110, but it's not original since I've put a Hart SS 26" varmint barrel on it. It must weigh about 13lbs. or so but groups in the .2"s (5 at 100yds.). Best wishes.

Well you asked, just bring money. He made two rifles for James_in_TN and he set two world records with the rifles. He is behind in work right now and not taking new orders until after June 2005 (maybe).

If you do get into a custom gun don't limit yourself to the 22-250 when there are so many great custom calibers to choose from. Yep, you will probably have to reload for it but that is where the other part of accuracy comes from.
Out of the factory box accuracy comes from Remington, Winchester, and Savage in standard price varmint guns. From the same maker you will find good, great, and exceptional accuracy. No two guns from the same maker are the same. Just like cars, you will find a lemon every once in a while.
You have an interesting choice ahead of you and lots of information to collect and sift through. Start with the catalog's and see what gun fits what you expect the gun to do. Then go to your favorite gun shop and heft the models you are interested in. How that gun feels in your hands is important.
Safe shooting,
Chris

Also don't neglect the twist factor in this equation. My .22-250, like most, has a 1 in 14" twist. It's a world beater with 55gr. and lighter bullets. Above that your accuracy is going to hell in a hand basket. This is why I like Savage. Many of their .22 centerfires come with a 1 in 9" twist for stabilizing the heavier stuff for use on larger varmint and for bucking the wind. Best wishes.

From my personal observation the most consistant accuracy in out of the box rifles is from Savage. There new trigger may even make them better. If you want a nicer looking gun go for the Remington 700. Rugers and Winchesters can be quite accurate but I have seen more of them that arn't quite what I expect. The 22-250 can be a bit problimatic for a new reloader and the swift even more so. If you are going to start reloading and don't have a mentor, you may want to start out with something like a .223.

I had a Rem 700 BDL in 22-250 that was a "tack driver" right out of the box. The adjustable trigger made it ideal for those long shots at groundhogs. I agree with Billp, though....$ 4 $ you can't beat a Savage. My 270 shot 1 1/2" groups @ 200 yards out of the box with factory ammo. That was before the accu-trigger, so mine is outfitted with a Timney. I'm starting to load some rounds for it now (I've only shot factory till now), and just as soon as the snow melts and I can get into my camp, I'll let you know how it likes my loads.
