DallanC,
Prayers sent for a full and speedy recovery. We all talk about the pain but never realize how bad it can be till we are laid up with some injury.
Good luck.

I hope you make a full recovery. Getting hurt even a little is never a good thing. I have a brother-in-law in Wisconsin that just loves those machines too. I am going to tell him what happened to you and see if he'll slow down and take it a little easier. God bless and get well.

Dallan, does this injury put you off work mate? If you are off work does this mean that you will not have your normal income coming in?

In Australia we have sick leave that accumulates each month and if we have to go off ill our pay doesn't stop. Is this the same for you?

Like Paul and Bushy I wish I could help....but being about 10,000km away makes it a little difficult, but I have an idea in mind.

Cheers, Vince

Vince that sounds like a good program: prevents working people from having to choose between starving their families or losing their house/truck, before eventually going bankrupt....just because they happen to be sick or injured.

But the idea is unthinkable for America, where such a policy would be characterized as being socialistic, i.e., dare I say it, Communist!!!
In other words, our hard-working friend Dallan is quite likely on his own unless he is fortunate enough to be able to afford his own health insurance policy.

certain companies have it also have something called workmans comp, pays if you are injured "on the job" some insurances also pay you for short term disability...

The US "Family Medical Leave Act" protects your job for 12 weeks but doesn't pay anything. The company that I work for has such a poor "attendance policy" that I had to apply for FMLA to cover a case of the flu! Forget about being paid for a sick day. That reminds me, I've got to look for a better job!

If Dallan is off work without pay for ant length of time, what would the other members think of sending a donation in. It would not have to be a very big donation to make a difference. Dallan has done a lot to give us all a place to meet. Not to mention a free ballistic program. Just a thought.

We have Workers Compenastion too....when I was medically discharged from the Army I was kept on full pay for 45 weeks, then it dropped down to a percentage...can't remember how low, but it was liveable...just. They also paid for me to do a Diploma of Business Management Course with a private college...about $12,000 from memory. At the end of the course I had about 2 months to find work after which regardless if I was employed or not they deemed me qualified for employment at a certain level (according to my qualifications) and subtracted the pay that I should earn from a job at that level from the compensation they were paying me....I think from memory my paymenbts dropped down to about $40 a fortnight. My Dr put in a report on my disabilities and we then revisited things and I went onto a Veterans Pension....about $15000 per annum, tax free. This is on top of my taxable supperanuation pension of about $31000 per annum. My Dr wants me to put in for an upgrade now, which if accepted will make me TPI (Totally and Permantly Incapacitated) which means my tax free pension will go up to abot $24000 per annum. I can live with that considering that at the moment I am able to pay double payments on my mortgage. Ex military members are certainly better off than civilians though.

Anyway, this is getting way off topic. I like Pitt55's idea. If Dallan needs help then even if we are only able to cover the monthly payments for HuntingNut then that would certainly help. Just a thought.

Cheers, Vince

Thanks all for the kind words.

I am still going into work so no big deal there. With meds, the pain is reduced to just an annoying ache. Hopefully it will start diminishing soon. I might have to start some physical therapy in the near future.

The accident could have been much much worse but as is, its just a painful reminder I'm not 16 anymore LOL!

We (some companies) have sick leave that is usually acured at 1 day a month or more. I had 123 days on the books when the company was awarded a new contract with NAVSEA. The company dropped the sick leave mostly because a lot of the people could never acure more then 2 days and would come down sick (of working) and were abusing the benifit...Of course, costing the company money...The offending employee's shot themselves in the foot...

Feelin' better Dallan? Very good...

aint it strange how it takes something like this to snap us out of the "bulletproof" stage of our lives!!! good to hear you are up and around, DONT overdo it! I took my pills and fealt real good one day, over did it and promptly put myself back six months on the recovery path.. so even though i know you are not the type of person to do so, but take it easy and heal up, next time maybe use a landing ramp?
