Gander took in Three Ruger Stainless Vaquero 44/40s.
They are all unfired with 5 1/4" barrels or there about.
The price for them is $419.00 each.
I guess that the guy who traded them was a collector.
I have checked on the net about these pistols, but couldn't find much, sense they are discontinued.
Should I get interested in one of these, or just pass them by??
I have not been a big fan of the Vaquero, but I like the idea of a 44/40 Cowboy Gun to go along with my Uberti .45 Colt Cattleman.
What do you guys think about these??
One thing that I don't like about them is the shiny stainless finish, but what do I know.

It would seem to me that $350 was a fair price for the guns.

They are, IMO, absolutely worth the money if in 90% condition or more. All 44-40 Vaqueros have the old, stronger, bigger frame. They were made in limited quantities compared to other Old Vaquero chamberings and they are assured a future appreciation beyond their contemporaries.
More, the 44-40 may be on of the most enjoyable cartridges for which to load and shoot. Its a bit more challenging as the cases have thin mouth thickness and above normal care is needed for belling and seating. That said, the minute you fire your first shot you will have a big smile as that old cartridge does some amazing things in a very mild manner.
Its a connection with history, too. Once one of the most popular chamberings in rifle or handgun, the 44-40 (blackpowder or smokeless) can still do a great job, probably, better than at any time in its illustrious history. Better components are available today than ever before.
$419! Absolutely!! Check GunBroker and see what used ones actually sell for and you see the need to run to the store and get one. Or two. Mine is an Old Vaquero, blue, 4 5/8" and is among the most accurate revolvers I own.

The gun is unfired in Mint Condition with wood rubbed finished grips.
Next week, I'll get the dies, brass, and bullets, and go to work getting some good reloads made up.
I will try to post some pictures if I can figure out how the heck to post them.
