That was a crock, the civvy was well within his rights. All I see is a cop who does't know his local and state laws with no people skills violating the rights of the guy.
Sue him for every cent cause its a-holes like that who give all the good LEOs a bad name.
I can't believe what I just watched, if any of my staff behaved like that I'd be reaming them a new one. As a Police supervisor its one thing I can't stand is officious officers exceeding their authority and then not having the intestinal fortitude to accept they got it wrong and apologize.
Its a sad day for me to have to watch this type of crap from an officer who should know and act better. The guy was with his son. The cop was overbearing and over reacted period! He should have approached the situation low key then amped it up if required....that wasn't required.
I don't care what his reasoning or excuse was. Poor judgement!
enuff said!

Disgusting and blatant abuse of power.
I hope he sues the hell of THAT particular department.

I have great respect to cops for they volunteer to protect us from the baddies, but in this case, they are the baddies.

I saw this on You Tube earlier on today, and it made me very cranky to see the way that fat gutless gump of a cop treated the hiker.

It was obvious to me that he knew he was in the wrong but didn't have the "nads" to admit being wrong. The only way he could save face was by allowing his superior to handle things (who was more or less obliged to support his subordinate) and subsequently arrest to guy and finish it all under cover of the Police Station...away from prying eyes and cameras.

I can understand his wanting to know what was going on, but he went about it the wrong way...in an officious manner.

Radar summed it up perfectly...this guy needs to be reined in before he does more damage to the Law Enforcement community.
