I backed the ATV into the truck and used the front winch to pull it up the ATV ramps. I also had a hand winch (come-a-long) and a billion ratchet straps. Problem was the snow made it slippery and she kept sliding off at bad angles while getting her pulled up.

She was easily 500lbs live weight, very big, heavy and hard to work with. But hey, at least we got the ATV to it on the mountain and drug it down to the truck.

The Wave Worship

WOW, that is a BIG elk mate, and she looks real healthy. Hope you have plenty of freezer space, I reckon that beastie will see you right through winter and hopefully spring, and by the time SWMBO fills her tag you won't need to worry about meat for quite some time.

Congrats, Dallan! I can see the snow on your ATV. Lucky your tail-gate can take the load. Yep, elk are big!!

I hope I can add a picture like that at the end of the month. Nice work Dallan.

good to see tags being filled.
I was due to go deer stalking on Thursday (sika or red stag) but went down with the flu last night, so had to cancel. Luckily the landowner is a friend, so he waived the cancellation fee.
If I'm not better by next week (or the weather misbehaves) then my chance of a stag is gone, as the season finishes at the end of the month & I fly out to NM on the 25th.
Might go for a doe cull shoot before Christmas in that case.

Holy smokes... butcher charged a rail weight of 312lbs. That is the biggest cow we ever took in. Most are closer to 240-260lbs. Rail weight is carcass minus hide, head and innards. So basically meat and bones.

Great Dallan! My hunting partner last year harvested a cow approx 800 lbs. Guide said it was as large as a bull and the biggest he had ever seen. I like to get them 2-3 years old so they are a bit more tender.

Oh I agree with smaller / younger = better. Problem was this is the one my boy hit first. There was a 2nd cow with a calf but we couldnt find it in the blizzard. Ah well, its all good. More jerky for the year.

Wifes 2017 Mule deer.

We got up super early opening morning and hiked into a steep canyon where I thought we'd see deer crossing from one mountain to another. Well, the plan worked, we had deer running past for hours. My wife got a few shots but it was miss after miss... and I mean by many feet, 3-4ft high and right.

We returned home and I did a quick bore sight and saw the gun was way way off. I grabbed her 30-06 out of the safe, checked it with the bore sight and saw it was dead on. We grabbed a box of shells and went back up on the mountain. She immediately dropped a big wide mature 4x4 with a single shot. Crazy day, but it ended well. She was really happy with it as am I.

Well done Mrs Dallan...a nice healthy looking deer, especially after the rough start to your hunt. Lots of BBQs in that beastie.
