so I used some MS1 a sort of gorilla snot epoxy in a tube to fix a crude rear sight off a norinco 7.62x39mm onto rear of barrel...seems to be firm enough not to go any where in a hurry...thought about braising but worried the Chinesium metal of sight may melt first....
tried them today and as expected rather high....10inches hig at 35 yards...so usable but not ideal....will try some small brass screws in bead hole and see if can find one to fit..that will give me lower point of impact...and maybe also carefully file groove lower in rear sight....
duplex load...4grns AR2219 under 50 grns HRBP works great,good solid push and much cleaner than straight HRBP....

update....metal grub screw out of scope rings that drove me nuts,I actually got mate to take scope out of them before I took angle grinder to them.... fitted into bead hole with careful work...3/4 turn forward,half turn back over n over till it had recut thread and was at correct depth (funnily enough the bead was threaded short and had cavity in barrel under it) gave me 7mm of elevation up front which put impacts pretty much bang on at 50 yards...was 6-8" left but the rear sight has windage and moved across made the correct amount of drift...seems to be minute of coffee cup now.....and thats a regular coffee cup not huge one like SOME folks on here use....and thats OK as my tea cup holds 750mls LOL.
now to eat some mutton from in freezer to make room so Im allowed to go hunting again LOL

well I have gone full circle with this project... fitted scope...made hot loads....now Ive gone back to irons and decided mild loads are better idea before the flinch comes back to haunt me too badly...a 500grn cast wit hfull charge of BP tends to do that to me... fired some 300grn jacketed rounds wit h60grns of 2219 yesterday..came home and pulled remaining loads and dropped it back to 55grns,just too naasty in such a light longarm. still havent managed a deer yet..Ive missed four times....gee its bad reading that. one was on run in the rain..next two were same day and both just too far away being hundred plus yards...and the last one I can laugh about now... big hind in clearing,I had both dogs with me..I snuck up and peered around tree to shoot,staying out of sight..the dogs hadnt read the plan and went one each side of tree to see better,deer looked up and bolted just as I fired..knew Id missed....
have shot 4 more wallabies,another head shot..on run at 50 yards no less,head shot in dawns murky light at 75 yards and two for single round at 25 yards LOL....
fun times ahead,its spring and animals are out feeding up....

Are ya sooking out mate? The bruises from the 45-70 500gr full loads of smokeless powder I fired out of a Roger #1 only lasted for a week…no problem. Scratch

Seriously though mate, reducing the loads might be good if the heavier loads induce a flinch. The 45-70 loaded with black should be no problem at 100 yards/metres given they used to shoot this calibre over 1000 yards with black in days gone by…just a matter of checking zero at 100 and 200 yards and adjusting as necessary. Also, maybe get a mate to shoot a group at 100 yards to take you out of the equation…that flinch maybe manifesting itself sub-consciously.

all true mate...I wont be shooting it past hundy with my crude sights. I have much better /more capable rifles for that carry on.
the weekend I spent recently with another firearm enthusiast taught me a lot....that I have done incorrectly..probably a major part of my poor accuracy results.
#1 the cast projectiles I was using arent the best
#2 do put a card wad between the black powder and projectile
#3 clean barrel after 1-2-3 shots,the BP fowling will destroy accuracy very quickly
#4 and this one took me by surprise.... ideally should be using LPP for a couple of reasons..cheaper/easier to get,less potent being main one,LRP will start projectile moving as charge goes off,not ideal with BP...and I was even worse using LRMP as had plenty of them...havent sourced LPP yet but dropped back to LRP for now

I was going about it oh so wrong and trying to go hot with loads is a mistake I should have twigged to sooner. time will tell if the home bored and rifle barrel will do any good but at worst Im confident to ethically take a deer or pig at bush ranges/under 75 yards.
