hi dimitri, we have some zebco 202's and 303's here. you can get the 5' pole and the reel combo for around $15 at walmart. they also have the starter kits w/ hooks, plastic worms, jigs, etc. for about $10. they're great as starters for kids. zebco 202, 303 are a close faced real. just push button, cast to spot on water then crank handle. it automaticly sets it in motion to reel in the big ones! Fireball,

I may consider getting him his own rod and reel sometime in the future but for atleast now since he'll be fishing with us when he does so he doesn't "need" his own right now. As we have tons he can use, I think we have over 15 rods and reels here, and we are only 4 of us. Laughing

For that matter he doesn't need his own tackle box ether because like the first time I'll probably be helping him all day but I want to get him one anyways. Smile

Well I just got back from shopping, went to get the kid his stuff and some of my own.

When I got to Bass Pro I found that about half my list was discontinued. Its been about a year since I last went to buy tackle. Not the individual item for most of them (The plastics that were my "first choice" thinner sized worms were not there, bought something alittle thicker) but the color patterns I have used, the ones that remained on the shelves were ones I've never managed to get to work for the most part. Confused

And I got to admit I'm a odd ball when it comes to lure shopping, if they do not have exactly what I want I don't buy it generally. I do make some small exceptions though. Still I managed to spend 65$ and a good 45$ of that was stuff for the kid. Laughing

Going to supplement the kit with some of the discontinued color sets I got in my box, even though a few aren't sold anymore (I generally don't let the baits out of my sights if I cant get new ones but) it will be worth it if the kid catches a fish with it! Very Happy

Have a look at this link Dimitri. It is to the DAM website. They are very good reels.

When i make up tackle boxes for young anglers (and i have made many) i always include a few 3x5 index cards that entitle the owner of the box to a day of fishing of his/her choosing ,as long as it works out for both parties.the kids really seem to like the free fishing cards but when they use thiers up,they ask where they can get more.just a thought

That is a brilliant idea Jim. I reckon that would work with taking the kids hunting too.

another good for the kids is stickers. such as a smiley face w/ Super 1 or a complimented saying on them. You can make em on your computer. give the kids one after the days end of the trip. It makes them feel important, wherther they catch anything or not. We use to do that with Campfire kids years ago. just a thought. Dave Very Happy

A good place to look for the "good going" sitckers are in the teachers section of stores. Also what we found worked good is to have a camera, instant worked best for use, and take a picture of the kid out doing the activity. Than we would put them in a "fram" of construction paper that the kids would than decorate. A lot of them would pick up leaves while they are out and they would glue them on. This way they can have a keepsake or something to give their parents.
