If any of you have experience with a TC Renegade .54, please share your powder/bullet combination.

I believe this gun came in 1 in 48 twist.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I shoot a T/C .54 Renegade flintlock and use 90 grs. FFG and patched balls. You may have to experiment a bit with different patch thicknesses from .010" through .015" along with various powder charges. Accuracy with my T/C is good, but not very good or excellent. All the best...

TC Maxi Hunter, 85gr FFF, Accuracy is OK not excellent (with 1-48 bbl). But good enough. (5" @ 50yds) I have a Green Mountain bbl in 54cal(1-70) that is made for round ball that shoots Clover leaf groups @ 100yds with 90gr FF w/ 530 Swaged round ball & .015" patch.

90 FFg Black Powder or Pyrodex. I use the Maxi-Ball or Maxi-Hunters that I cast myself. Good accuracy with either one.

This is a good topic! I shoot this ML with 87.5 grains of paradox with 230 grain round balls and find it shooting in 2in range pattern at 25 yards. Shooting around 1.7 inches high making it shoot about zero at 100 yards. This was shot at 3000 ft elevation. Yes, the twist on the Renegade is 1:48 ratio.
I tried the new Buffalo sabot bullets out, with 225 grains and found it shooting 6 inches higher with not as tight of pattern. This bullet supposes to load with no lube. What a joke. I had to put butter on it to load and still had a hard time getting it all the way down to the powder. Does anyone know what other bullets are good to shoot in this ML? I am very disappointed in the buffalo's, mostly because of the way they load. Takes all my might to shove them down the barrel with lube. Would like to find more information on the trajectory of different loads also. Does anyone know any websites where there are better charts on this? The round ball loads mentioned above should drop about 30 inches at 200 yards according to charts I have found. I have not verified this. Does anyone know if this is true? Is the Maxi-hunter a lot better slug to shoot in this gun? Is there a lot less drop at 200 yards if it is dead on at 100?
I appreciate any comments on this topic.
Have a good day!

Lon

Mine gets fed Maxi-Hunters, Bore Butter lubed, over 120/Pyrodex (measured, not weighted) and it shoots 100 yd groups of 4" or less with iron sights (TC Peep rear) and my old eyes. Deadly.

Mine likes Maxiballs over 120 gr black powder, it does not shoot well with Pyrodex (and gave an unacceptable number of mis-fires with the Pyrodex). I will be trying Power-Belts over 777 in the next few weeks.
