|
HI,
I have a question to ask anyone who knows the answer. In my haste to grab an 870 barrel part#25840, while it was on sale, i dont know if it will work with my receiver. the barrel that came off was a 2-3/4" and the new on is rated for 2-3/4" and 3", it is also rated for steel and lead.
Can i shoot all these items safely with the receiver?

If it slides into the receiver and lock in place properly it would be safe. But you not sure if the action of your Wing Master will allow the 3" shells to cycle or not (cause of the length, should work the 3 1/2" are the longer "Mag" shotguns, while both 2 3/4" and 3" are built on the standard).

thanks, it locks into place. But I am hesitant to chamber a 3" cause i dont know if it will eject the shell casing.

Insert a fired hull if you have one in the magazine and cycle it slowly to eject it. If it jams you can always simply remove the barrel and pull it out.

Welcome to the forum.
You are limited to 2 3/4" shells unless your 870 has a 3" magnum receiver. I bought a similar barrel and it works fine with 2 3/4" shells. Hope this helps. All the best...

Unless your serial number is followed by an M I would not shoot 3 inch shells. The M would stand for a magnum reciever.

So to tie it all together for you.... if the barrel you bought says for 2 3/4 and 3" shells but your wingmaster does not say magnum on the side... you should shoot 2 3/4" shells in it. You CAN shoot the 3" in it but it will be a single shot as you will have to help it eject the longer hull. (Do not ask me how I know )
