Depends.

Big game hunting I hunt cold, both with rifles and muzzleloaders (few minor exceptions to this, ie: in AK bear country). Bird hunting its hot, slow & careful.

I dont see an option for both.

I was taught to hunt hot way back when. I was also taught if you followed the basic ten commandments of hunting/shooting that hot or cold you would be considered safe. I still believe that.
95% of all my hunting is done with a single shot rifle that requires the hammer be cocked in order to fire. They also all have hammer blocks to reduce the risk of an AD as a result of a fall or impact.

What are "obesticals"

Can ya find 'em in deep cold pools?

or do they shrivel up?

H-Joe,

I don't see any "obesticals" around. I guess whatever they are, they already shrivel up, disappeared, run off, or something.

I always hunt with a hot chamber, the safety on and watch the muzzle. Crossing obstacles when afield or in the woods requires safe hunting practices and I unload temporarily. Take care...

Dimitri,

I was imitating H-Joe's spelling. I didn't know what the heck he was talking about! Sorry to participate in a ribbing.

Dallan, I'm not a front stuffer shooter, so maybe a silly question but, how do you hunt cold with a muzzleloader mate? Do you load everything except the putting the cap on the nipple or do you do the complete load when game is imminent?

Cheers, Vince
