Wondering what others think about farmers culling deer and other game animals that are destroying their crops !!!

I think you should be able to thin. Every time a deer or what ever sticks its head down it cost you money. Ther is a sertin amout of tolerance with all the farmers around hear. Hell thats why we live hear. But it can only go on so long before somthing has to be done.

I think that you should be allowed to be issued a ''farm license'' which allows you special hunting rights.

Frikin' forest rats! Eat everything that aint metal. Gardens, crops, landscape- GONE.
Pop's has dispatched more than a couple from the arm chair in his living room with the ol' .280, co-op got a fresh 'road kill' each time (explained the bullet hole was a mercy-shot after a slow-dance with a logging truck. :-D).
Lot's of less than fortunate fam's ate well them weeks. No one complained either.
Eat them before they eat you outta house and home.
Deer's is good for one thing... DINNER!

I think they should be issued to farmers who are having damage issues. I'm kinda dealing with a similiar issue . There are 6 of us that have the hunting rights to the County Airport and they are trying to get "bonus" tags through the game commission issued to us and ability to shoot deer at any time of the year.

The Game & Fish in Arkansas give out nuisance license to farmers so they can do that.

I think they should be able to shoot problem critters as long as they can show damage.

Over here, farmers are allowed to cull deer & other animals that are damaging their crops.
Unlike hunters, they can use a shotgun loaded with buck or slugs.

I took out three with nuisance permits last year. I now have respect; not a nibble on anything that mattered by deer this year.

The reason I’ve asked about this is, I’ve been ask to do the shooting !!!
The farmer is in the process of obtaining the proper permits and documentation of the damage.
In the past I’ve been involved in conversations that discussed state agencies bringing in paid sharpshooters that had a 24/7 permit.
These sort of actions always seemed to leave a bad feeling among the hunters I know.

It would depend on the stipulations. I can understand nuisance animals but also see the local farmers leaving strips of unharvested corn until after season. If they can feed the bastards for season then they can suck up the damage to.
Now if they were paying to the DNR for the option of culling the herd. And it has to be closely regulated.
I am unable to cull the herd when they eat the trees that I plant.
It's a very touchy situation in MN to many take advantage of programs like this.
As far as feeding the less fortunate... Oh no.. it may cause lead poisoning!! We paid to have deer processed to go to the food shelf's only to be thrown away when some moron decided there could be to much lead for the less fortunate to eat.

we've been asked a few times to help with some pigs that get into the grain fields. Normally I sya there are reasons for hunting regs and seasons, but if it's on private property, i.e. a farm/ranch than they should be alowed to do it.

The Ozarks have a year round open season on feral pigs. No license or permit needed. Just a gun and ammunition. Shoot on sight...They are literally plowing up the foot hills around here.
