The Burris Tactical Scope Rings were really beefy and had six screws to torque down on ring. That was a bit much for me. I found another option on ebay - AR TMS Tactical Scope Rings

Here is how the two compare. Neither has a sharp corner to catch on anything. The AR TMS rings can handle 30mm or 1" with inserts. The quality of the Burris is definitely better but the AR TMS are sufficient. Notice the allen screw insert is not centered on one of the screws - it still worked. Both got the scope center-line up 1.5 inches above the flat top. The Weaver see-thru mounts I was using before only raised the scope center-line 1.25 inches and that was just shy of being what I needed.

The Leupold VS-II is not a long scope nor does it have long eye relief so it mounted up well. Will take to the range later this week. I'm going to shoot with the hand guard on and off to see what the difference in accuracy is so I can decide if a free floating hand guard is worth it.

I had a buddy mill one for me - it is pretty slick. you can drop the bolt with your finger in the trigger guard.

Got to the range today at sunrise, a beautiful day with calm winds. The AR TMS scope rings left me doubting about how solid they were. The flat sided knobs that look like they can be tightened by hand came loose after firing a few rounds. Not sure how long it was like that before I caught it. Will have to switch back to the nuts and torque with a wrench. A pair of pliers got me through the morning. The point of aim moved around initially, not sure if that was the mount settling in or the gun as this is the first real session I've shot it after an initial break-in. Think I will try the Burris rings the next time I go to the range. I posted the results of shooting freefloat and with the mil-spec handguard in a new thread.

I got back to the range with the Burris Tactical Rings with the 3-9x Leupold VX-II. They worked great, very rugged. I'm keeping this set-up for my hunting. I'm confident they will hold point of aim between swaps with my low power scope I use on the tactical range.

Of interest, I picked up a pair of AR rings on eBay for $6.99 including shipping. They are called

1" 25mm High See Through Weaver Scope Mount Rings Sight - by timesavior

They took 3+ weeks to come in because they ship direct from Hong Kong so don't be in a hurry to get them. But for the price, I figured I try them and they would be handy at some point. I mounted my 1.5x Weaver with them.

Their quality surprised me, especially for the price. Unlike the other eBay rings (AR TMS scope rings), they did not loosen after 20 rounds. So, I left them on for a tactical carbine match last weekend. Another 120 rounds - They worked great.

So, Here are my findings from evaluating inexpensive scope rings (<$50) for AR Flat-tops that gave me 1.5 inches of height (flat-top to scope center).

1st Burris Tactical: A+
2nd $6.99 See Through: B+ (maybe A- after a few more matches)
3rd: AR TMS scope rings: C

I ran my AR though another tactical match with the AR TMS Scope Rings ($7 on eBay). They still are working fine, holding zero, and staying firm.

Looks Great!! I converted mine over to all Magpul in Dark Earth. Will post pictures later this week. I think I'll get a Burris PEPR scope mount, also. MidwayUSA has them on sale for $69.

shapshtrjoe, did you put an extention on your buffer tube or is that for a single point sling. If sling, can you post some pictures and tell us how the sling is working out?

Thats a MI MCTAR-30HD End plate sling adapter it's sweet it is a quick detach so you can put it left , right , or bottom with out removing the mount and the mount is two pieces so you don't have to remove the tube when installing Very Happy ( here's the link ) www.midwestindustriesi...gory_id=97 . I have bin using it as a single point and like it, and and Im also very happy with the PEPR I am gonna change my scope that 2-7x32 just isn't letting enough light in at dawn and dusk so I think im gonna swap it with another rifle and put a 3-9x40 Nikon on it.

Good guesses but I wouldn't call it a common camshaft. Its a Volvo Turbo Camshaft! I turbo charged my 93 240 Wagon. It ran so well with just the turbo added I decided to leave well-enough alone and let the turbo cam sit it out for a while. I'm Xman on the TurboBrick Forum. Slimjim is the name the kids endeared to the 240.

No, I use a standard two point when Hunting. I use the single point when were doing drills with the .45.
