|
With firearm theft and home invasions increasing, more and more owners of firearms and valuables are considering the purchase of a gun safe. I believe a lot of forum members have their own safe(s) already and can relate to one piece of advice.
Buy a bigger safe on your first purchase! Buy the best you can afford with the fire ratings and lock systems that will allow them to protect your investments.

Might I add a couple of things:
Buy from a store where they deliver to inside the house.
Measure, then measure again, before you buy a safe that will not go through the door, up the stairs or into the house itself. Your nice new safe setting in the garage is not so good. Walk the route and measure.
Mostly handguns, a bench safe. Mostly long guns an upright safe.
Best,
Ed

I agree wholeheartedly with all of the comments above...including Chambered's
Bushy's comment of bolt it to the floor is very true....in fact over here it is law that it must be bolted to the "frame" of the house. Mine are dynabolted to the floor and the brick wall.
Cheers, Vince

It's funny how the simplest things get overlooked. A few years ago a guy who lives about 3 miles away and collected guns was at work when burglars entered his home and simply carried his three gun safes away to be opened at their leisure. Kudos to everyone who reminded us that having a safe (or several) is only half of the job!

I have to agree with all that was said. I would buy the biggest safe that could fit through your door. The safe I bought was on the small side and didn't hold all my guns.
